... So this is my opinion on their latest album, Rooty.
I got this for my birthday a couple of months ago after it was recommended by my brother. I also got it because I absolutely adored the first song off the album, Romeo.
My bro also has the 3rd album, Remedy which is also a class compelation. ... Read review

mainstream-versus-underground appeal? Well ask Basement Jaxx because they've done it with their second album Rooty. The vibe of Rooty is very much in keeping with its predecessor Remedy... a non-stop party. Felix Buxton and Simon Ratcliffe, the duo behind Basement Jaxx, could make a funeral march sound cheerful and ripe for dancing to. This they do with the surprising "Get Me Off", which has one of the darkest, nastiest sub-bass lines the pair have yet produced but which still comes up smiling. The lead single "Romeo" features Kele Le Roc and is a characteristically sugar-soaked house track with a good-time vibe, sounding a little like 1980s carnival band Amazulu. Many of the tracks have a real retro influence of soulful disco, with "Jus 1 Kiss" successfully mixing hugely complex and original production with a four-to-the-floor feel, like a latter-day Earth, Wind & Fire. It is a unique talent that Basement Jaxx share with only a few other artists: they can create music with mainstream appeal without compromising any of their more unusual ideas. Rooty reveals once again that under that quirky pop exterior Basement Jaxx remain skilfully different and unusually innovative. --David Trueman
Advantages: Some tracks are fantastic - Romeo, Get me off etc - and the videos are great Disadvantages: Takes a while to get into
...I am here to review Rooty and thats what I'll review. Now I warn you that I am not a music boff - tempo and texture all went over my head when I was younger. But never mind, I will do my best.
1 ROMEO
This is probably my favourite track on the album becuause it was so different when it came out. I actually heard it a few months before it was released and I loved it. It had a few odd sounds in it which were appealing all the same - I love Daft Punk ... ...by her record label, Le Roc, the song was bound to be a hit. And although 6 was high, it didn't do one of my favourite songs of the year justice. Although can I make a point that, Ms Le Roc didn't do any promotional work which could have restricted the songs success?
2 BREAKAWAY
This is also one of the best on the album. Breakaway is quite a repetative, deep beat, club tune with its addictive sounds. There aren't many lyrics but they repeat which ...

Advantages: some great tracks, totally original style Disadvantages: sounds better in a club than on the CD player
A munching gorilla set against a background of stars and vivid pink isn't a look that too many music stars would go for on the front of their albums. However, Brixton's Basement Jaxx aren't your orthodox band. Known to their mothers as Simon Ratcliffe and Simon Buxton, they have been producing music together for almost a decade, although it was only with 1999's 'Remedy' that they fully hit the big time. Whilst Ibiza anthems like 'Red Alert' and 'Rendezvous' ... ...the height of its powers, 'Rooty' was released during a period when only trance seemed to be making an impact on the charts. Unfortunately, due the public's wish to by songs featuring anonymous blonde women singing cliched lyrics over a dull and recycled tune, 'Rooty' wasn't as big a success as it should have been. However, it remains one of the better dance albums to be released this decade. The album begins with 'Romeo', which was the first song ...

Advantages: Good tunes, excellent mix of old and new Disadvantages: none
Being a bit of a raver once upon a time certain aspects of dance music still appeal to me and get me tapping my feet every now and then.
So listening to the 'hit parade' or 'Top 40' as its called these days I couldnt help but notice one particular tune stood out from the rest and made my feet tap like mad.
I just had to find out who it was that was producing such a catchy and rythmic tune and waited almost 4 minutes to hear that it was 'Basement ... ...They did a track a while ago called Rendez vous, and a bit before that one called Red alert.
So, me being a bit of a tight wad decided to have a look on the old computer at Audiogalaxy.com to see if the track could be downloaded, incidentaly the track is called 'Romeo '.
Much to my delight there was hundreds of basement jaxx tracks available, even the one that I had just heard blasting out of the radio.
Then an amazing thought sprang to my mind!!......If ...

Truly fantastic album by Basement Jaxx, even better than their last! The cover of the album has a picture of an albino gorilla which is quite cool. I was surprised at the variety in ‘Rooty’ as its totally different to everything released by the band so far.
Basement Jaxx first caught my attention with single ‘Red Alert’ and I became a big fan. Anyway about the album, I’ve decided to review the songs that I like. So ... ...upbeat track, I can’t believe how many times I’ve listened to this! It is a mad and full of techno beats and bass. It’s perfect for the mad clubber (like me!), it is one of the many gems on this album.
Romeo
~~~~~~
Slightly overplayed on the radio but I still love this track. The video is also brilliant, it’s a catchy song with ‘You used to be my Romeo…’ Great to dance to, even better to blast when getting ...
This is one class album. For everyone who likes some wacky, fun tracks then you will like this album. I quite surprised my self when I got this. I didn’t think I would enjoy it; I bought it out of curiosity and was really pleased! It has some top tunes and some great sounds on the album.
The album starts out with its own little intro. It has a low sound and then you hear “Bassment Jaxx” in a deep voice. I think this is a great ... ...good songs…
1) Romeo
This song is a bit annoying now. It is annoying because of the constant repetition of the words “Romeo” and “Let it all go”. It does have an excellent video and the base beat and tempo to the song is pretty cool. It is one of those songs that you either love or you hate.
2) Break Away
This is an excellent song. It has an odd singer, with an odd voice – it is sung by Jill Draper and the ...
