Garden (nearest tube is CoventGarden on the Picadilly line, or walk up from Charing Cross/Waterloo) and is the most fantastic building. The third operahouse to be built on the site (the previous two both having been burnt to the ground), it went under extensive renovation in the late nineties, reopening in 2000 after a 200 million refurbishment. On entering you are struck by the huge scale of the building, the huge ceilings, the massive pillars - it's a building of real architectural impressiveness. On the first floor is the Floral Hall with its tall ceilings and champagne bar in the middle and if you head up to the Amphitheatre level there is a huge glass window allowing you to look down over the Floral Hall. If you fancy something to eat you have a choice of restaurants, the Amphitheatre Restaurant, the Paul Hamlyn Balconies Restaurant ...
Advantages: Just about the best tourist spot in London Disadvantages: Can get very crowded at times
several CDs for £2.99 each. Pop posters and calendars are also sold here. The 2 stallholders are really helpful and friendly.
Most of the stalls sell bric-a-brac items with a certain theme. My wife bought a couple of small porcelain cats at a pound each.

If it is a hot day I would recommend the frozen yogurt from the ice-cream stall.
I just love browsing the stalls for retail therapy. Some real bargains can be had here.

Advantages: Wasn't expensive Disadvantages: Hour tour wasn't long enough
of the busiest performing arts centres in the world with different plays being shown all the time. There is always something new happening at the Operahouse. It is an icon of Australia!
To view the outside of the OperaHouse is free. You can walk around it at Circular Quay and up to it and into the reception and shop for free. If you want to see the interior there is a tour you can take. The best views are early in the morning during the week as there is fewer tourists, in fact some mornings there may be only a handful of people or no-one at all.
You can view the Operahouse from several different locations:
The Rocks has a great view especially when the sun it setting as you can view the OperaHouse from the side. It is also free, you can have some lunch in one of the cafes overlooking the OperaHouse. There is an observation deck here ...
