Advantages: Great sampler, excellent recording.
Disadvantages: Not quite as memorable as being there in person.

...The Vienna New Year's Concert is a tradition somewhat akin to the "Last Night of the Proms" apart from the fact that obviously it is Austrian music that is played, and there is not the same atmosphere. The concert has happened annually since 1939, although originally it used to take place on New Year's Eve rather than New Year's Day, because a poor attendance was feared, after the traditional Austrian "Silvester" revelry. One other difference is that the New Year's Concert is even more exclusive than the Last Night of the Proms, as you have to apply for tickets two years in advance, and they are exceptionally pricey. Indeed applications for the 2003 concert closed on 2nd January this year. It is an event to be seen at, and is also a musical highlight of the Vienna music scene. Classical voices to relax and uplift

Advantages: Good background listening
Disadvantages: Odd mixture of music on the Uplifting disc

.... 4 Mozart - 'Champagne Aria'. This is from the opera Don Giovanni and sung by Bryn Terfel. I'm afraid that personally I can't stand this one and would have to skip it. 5 Doyle - 'Non Nobis Domine'. This comes from the 1989 film of Henry V. It is quite an uplifting piece, with that distinctive full-bodied sound that a lot of film music seems to have. 6 Haydn - 'The Heavens are Telling the Glory of God'. This is from the oratorio The Creation. It's a more traditional choral track and for me it's one of the best pieces on the Uplifting CD. 7 Arne - 'Where the Bee Sucks'. Emma Kirkby is the soprano on this track, with the Academy of Ancient Music. The words are form Shakespeare's The Tempest. Thomas Arne was a British composer who also write out national anthem and Rule Britannia. Where would Last Night of the Proms be without him... Read review

Review of Grease - Original Soundtrack by angels21

Advantages: great songs
Disadvantages: none

...This is my most favourite soundtrack of all time. Since I first watched the film I was addicted to it and know all the words to the songs. I had this soundtrack on tape originally but I listened to it so much it sounds a bit dodgy now. In parts of it the music goes slow and patchy. This then forced me into getting it on cd. Being a newer version to what I originally had this follows the stage version of it and includes extra songs from what was on the film. I will highlight the extra ones when i go through the songs. There are 24 tracks on the album but the last song is the first song being repeated.That is grease, which is played at the start of the film when all the title names are going up. It is a fast song, with a good beat to it. The theme behind this song is a sort of cool one which the two main grouops of the tee birdes... Read review
