...with a swirling fast movement, the dance suite modulates to a slow sensual movement which is then followed by a choral dance movement raising and falling in waves (a precursor for the hauntingly beautiful, much-covered and easily-recognized song, Strangers in Paradise). 'In the Steppes of Central Asia' (track 6) is perhaps Borodin's most famous piece. It was written as incidental music for one of a series of tableaux to illustrate Russian history. This particular tableau depicted an Oriental caravan crossing the steppes escorted by Russian soldiers. The music begins with a simple melody that gradually builds to create a sense of height for the steppes. Warning to all potential buyers...
Review of Warning - Green Day by katiefletcher

Advantages: Some good songs
Disadvantages: A lot of variation

...If you are expecting similar music to Dookie and Nimrod from this album, then you may be disappointed. Many of the songs are very boppy and not really the style that we've grown to love from Green Day. There are a few good tracks on this album but I wouldn't say it was worth £16. Some of the songs are a lot of fun, like Misery. Misery sounds a lot like a Russian folk dance. It really makes you laugh. But, Minority, the new single they've released in England, is very boppy. I mean, it got into the top 40 and they were on TOTP (a new low for them, I must say).... Read review

Review of Very Best Of Sting And The Police, The [Remastered] - Sting/Police (The) by bazzorpa

Advantages: Classic
Disadvantages: the last track spoiled it for me

Roxanne '97 One thing I didn't realise until I bought this album is that all of the tracks bar one (Russians) where written by Sting. This shows tremendous song writing talent and ensdurance to keep them coming over a twenty year music career (plus the odd foray into acting e.g. Dune). The lyrics are typically thought provoking and haunting, and seem to definately mean something (rather than todays pop pap). If you are a fan of them, then this is a must have - and for around a tenner you really cannot go too far wrong.... Read review
