Rust In Peace...Polaris (5.36) The title track. The intro is absolutley classic with the guitars delivering another classic rhythm piece to this album. The solo is very melodic and you cant help but to listen to it over and over. The only problem with this song is that is gets quite repetative, but other than that its a good end to a legendary album!

Megadeth-one of the most accomplished heavy metallers in the buisness, released this album in 1990. This is by far their best album. The band have had many changes but the line up in this album was: Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar), David Ellefson (bass), Marty Friedman (guitars), Nick Menza (drums). This is a true thrash masterpiece and probably the best thrash metal album of all time, 'Master Of Puppets' and 'Reign In Blood' by Metallica and Slayer close behind.
Holy Wars...The Punishment Due (6.36) This song is trully amazing, the guitars galloping first riff, and the perfectly worked lead work amazingly well together. Mustaine's sarcastic singing voice then come's in singing about how pointless orgonized religion is and about endless holy wars. Then Friedman plays a beautiful acoustic solo out of nowhere wich fits brilliantly into the song. Then next a powerfull interlude, and many solo's courtesy of Friedman and Mustaine. The last line of the song is classic 'next thing you know, they'll take my thoughts away', absolutley classic! Rating: 10/10
Hangar 18 (5.14) This is a guitar infested riot. The chord rhythm intro is very well written and the lead/verse sounds amazing and very original. The first solo here is very well written and very fast. The bass and drums are good but there seem's almost no point to them once the guitars start on their galloping sprint to the finish solos. The lyrics here are very good also, singing about hangar 18, area 51, and the supposed secret base where aliens are being tested on. Rating: 10/10
Take No Prisoners (3.28) This sint as well known as the other songs on this album, but is still a very well written song. The guitars again deliver a fast, furious and complex (to some degree), riffing. Everything about this song is very catchy, and you'll find your self singing along, or trying to play along! Rating: 9/10
Five Magics (5.42) This is another classic wich starts with some lightning fast riff's. Then the rather twisted sounding lead kicks in wich is very well written to accompany the bass and drums. There is an amazing bass line here also, courtesy of David Ellefson! Then in kicks the tempo and the guitars start flowing their solos. They sound perfect along with the thrashy riffs played. This song has many time changes, and many solo's wich I love and why this is my favorite track on the album. Rating: 10/10
Poison Was The Cure (2.58) This track has some fast guitar and some good drumming, and the lyrics are very clever. I love the whole vibe the song gives, it has a somehwhat funky vibe to it. I love the chorus in this song with the guitars playing a descending pattern wich gives the song that weird edge. Again the solos fit amazingly well, and this is one of my favorite solos on the album. Rating: 10/10
Lucretia (3.58) An evil laugh beggining this one, before the very melodic intro played by Mustaine. The lyrics are somehwat poor, with Dave singing about a ghost in his cellar! But the whole musical side of this song is amazing, with the solo being the best on the whole album. Rating: 9/10
Tornado Of Souls (5.22) This is one of the best opening riffs I've ever heard in my life! A brillaint lead piece after the opening chords and natural harmonics. This is one of my other favorites on the album, where you cant stop yourself singing along, and you are inspired to pick up a guitar! Rating: 10/10
Dawn Patrol (1.50) I never listen to this, just a bass line and drums, with some weird vocals. Its the most pointless things I've ever heard! And it's quite disappointing thats such a pointless thing could make it onto one of the best metal albums ever! Rating: 3/10
Rating: 10/10
Advantages: This album is the epitome of thrash. This is how it should be done Disadvantages: Somehow the production on this album can make it sound a little quiet
...is the best definition of Rust In Peace.
As Dave and Marty shred out the very first bars of Holy Wars - The Punishment Due, you can tell that this album is chock-full of blistering, ultra-complex, but extremely tuneful, some might say soulful riffs, jaw-dropping solos and a rhythm and bass section that's tighter than a gnat's chuff, all pulled together with astonishing speed and agression, tempered by the familiar bluesy edge that is pervasive on ... ...part aural battering that is Rust In Peace...Polaris Of course, Dave Mustaine's vocals are not everyone's cup of tea. he's sort of like Marmite; you either love him or hate him as he spits, wails and growls his lyrics, which of course, are not really all that relevant in this day and age, but at the time of original release, were unusualy poignant, when compared to songs like High Speed Dirt (a song about jumping out of a plane with no parachute... ...

Advantages: It's great music that needs to be listened to! Disadvantages: Few dodgy tracks and a few short ones
Ok ok, before we start I might aswell introduce myself. you may know me as my previous name Sheringham19, if ya don't, nice to meet you, I'm Andy :P I fancied a change, so I went and changed my name. Ok, greetings over lets get down to the important stuff. As many of you will know, I write boring op's on mainly albums and I wouldn't want to disappoint you all, so here I go with another one.
Megadeth were perhaps one of the best Metal bands of the 80's/early 90's and were often compared to Metallica. The lead singer Dave Mustaine even had a stinit with Metallica on lead guitar, but was fired after a few shows, due to heavy drinking. Mustaine reacted badly to this and wanted to get 'revenge' on his previous band, which he did, in the form of Megadeth. After much success with their first three albums they released RustInPeace, which I ...
Advantages: Hard, Loud, Musically Exceptional Disadvantages: Very few if any
RustinPeace i, first and foremost, one of the few definitive and essential items in the Heavy Metal genre. It screams against the evils of society in the menacing lyrics of Holy Wars, Take No Prisoners, and the title track - RustInPeace. In other places it offers a bleak warning - the sombre-toned Dawn Patrol being heavily underated as part of the narrative of the album. But this analysis is too deep. For megadeth are far more than song-writers. Led by the snarling anarchaic vocals and solid rhythm of the genre's most talented front-man (Dave Mustaine) the album is speed/thrash metal's finest hour. Let it not be forgotten that Mustaine was actually lead guitarist in Metallica, and on leaving moved to the vocals - leaving the stage open for what has been a chain of exceptional players. This is the first album with the legendary Marty ...
Advantages: every track is good but holy wars is classic Disadvantages: not everybody likes thrash
This is in my opinion megadeths finest hour. it would be worth the money for the clkassic Holy Wars - the punisment due alone.
But then add on hanger 18 and a host of other great thrash tracks and what you have is a great album that you play over and over again. it still makes the trip to my car on a regular basis so that I can drive along with my teeth rattling and singing at the top of my voice (not a pretty sight)
The album has few equals in this genre and megadeth never quite reached this peak again although youthansia comes close
this album defines the genre and should be compulsory listening for all the new bands trying to imitate the pure energy that abounds here
just buy it ok ...

Album Notes
Megadeth: Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar); Marty Friedman (guitar); David Ellefson (bass, background vocals); Nick Menza (drums, background vocals). After the success of PEACE SELLSaBUT WHO'S BUYING? in 1986 and SO FAR, SO GOOD, SO WHAT! in 1988, Megadeth was fast becoming one of thrash metal's leading outfits. However, the band's hard work was nearly derailed because of the continuous dismissals of band members and chronic substance abuse. Founding members Dave Mustaine (guitar/vocals) and Dave Ellefson (bass) changed their ways before work on their fourth album began, hiring drummer Nick Menza and ex-Cacophony guitarist Marty Friedman. When Megadeth re-emerged with RUST IN PEACE in 1990, metalheads were happy to hear that the changes hadn't dulled their attack in the slightest. "Holy WarsaThe Punishment Due" is an absolutely crushing opener that shows off the technical expertise of the musicians, while "Hangar 18" covers the familiar ground of alien visitation and government conspiracy. Both videos were put in heavy rotation on MTV's Headbanger's Ball program, which helped land the band a spot on the successful heavy 'Clash of the Titans' tour with Anthrax, Slayer, and Alice In Chains. Other highlights include the heavy hitters "Five Magics," "Lucretia," and "Rust in PeaceaPolaris."
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (11/15/90) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "The arrangements...are consistently riveting...[carrying] Megadeth's individuality into a broader, more open musical arena where nobody can touch them." Spin (12/90) - "...a mature, complex, surprisingly consonant, sparely produced album...Simply put, RUST never sleeps." Musician (1/91, p.92) - "...Don't mistake Megadeath's apocalyptic imagery for doomsday overkill...even without the lyrics, this band's instrumental attack is so ferocious these songs would sound like the end of the world anyway..." NME - "...This is a moshing album that really manages to mosh...A veritable treat for the ears...."
