Ok ok, before we start I might aswell introduce myself. you may know me as my previous name Sheringham_19, if ya don't, nice to meet you, I'm Andy :P I fancied a change, so I went and changed my name. Ok, greetings over lets get down to the important stuff. As many of you will know, I write boring op's on mainly albums and I wouldn't want to disappoint you all, so here I go with another one.
Megadeth were perhaps one of the best Metal bands of the 80's/early 90's and were often compared to Metallica. The lead singer Dave Mustaine even had a stinit with Metallica on lead guitar, but was fired after a few shows, due to heavy drinking. Mustaine reacted badly to this and wanted to get 'revenge' on his previous band, which he did, in the form of Megadeth. After much success with their first three albums they released Rust In Peace, which I'm going to talk about. Now, Rust In Peace is a classic metal album, full of fast paced riffs and mega solos which will bring the house down (literally!) and have your neighbours wanting your blood.

Megadeth had a knack of changing the line up a lot of times, but this one has to be the best one. Right, time for me to review the songs on the album for all you lucky so and so's. Firstly I shall lay out a track listing for you (Interesting huh?)
1. Holy Wars....The Punishment Due 2. Hangar 18 3. Take No Prisoners 4. Five Magics 5. Poison Was The Cure 6. Lucretia 7. Tornado Of Souls 8. Dawn Patrol 9. Rust In Peace....Polaris
1. Holy Wars....The Punishment Due =================================== It takes nearly 2 minutes before Dave Mustaine finally graces the song on this track, due to a huge and very powerful intro. After a while it all goes quiet and a Spanish feel riff kicks in for a few seconds halting the song, until that is, when Dave Mustaine kicks back in with the vocals and the guitars kick off in the usual crazy Megadeth style. Everything Gels in this songs the vocals, guitars, bass and drums are played almost in tandem, which is just great to hear. A real classic to kick off the album.
2. Hangar 18 ============= One of the well known Megadeth songs within the fan base and by far my personal favourite song. Metallica's reason for kicking Dave out of the band was that he couldn't do anything special and all he had was speed. He has speed alright! some of the stuff he plays on this track are absolutely impossible and he pulls them off with great smugness. The claim is kind of true though, he does generally use quite simple, but very effective riffs. Dave's voice on this track is quite class, especially on the chorus where he blends it in with the guitars. All this combines with the ending chorus, which is interrupted on several occasions by a brillaint riff is a perfect way to finish the song. Credit due, this is the best Megadeth song ever!
3. Take No Prisoners ===================== Another classic song from the Megadeth vault. The lyrics are just pure class and sound kinda funny at the same time. You have Dave saying something like "got one chance" then the rest of the group saying, "infiltrate them" and it just goes great with the song. This is another song, it seems about war, something Mustaine often perceives in his songs. He portrays war battles as 'a playground for the demented' which is.....erm.....nice. A nice rhythm also goes with this track. Not one of their best efforts, but still worthy of a play.
4. Five Magics ================ Ahhhhh yes, five magic’s, another one of my personal favourites. It's such a great song because they change the style so many times, although the style is nowhere near that of System Of A Down it reminds me of their diversity and will to change the style on so many occasions. Five Magics kicks off with a nice, loud, fast paced rhythm and the proceeds to change to a quiet, slow paced rhythm, one totally different to the intro. Dave then kicks us off with the lyrics and then it gets going again, with a speed-fest of guitar playing which is great to listen to. The drums on this track add a certain edge to this song that gets you even more into a head banging mood, as it contributes a lot to the rhythm. Another brilliant Megadeth song, that is only eclipsed by the excellent, Hanger 18.
5. Poison Was The Cure ======================= This is not a usual Megadeth song, as it sounds very strange. The start is very calm and only the slightest whiff of heaviness can be heard at the end of the main riff. After 1 minute it kicks into a kind of 'watered down' Megadeth sound and doesn't sounds as gritty as some of the other tracks. It sounds like it should be on Metallica's 'black' album as the tune is much more of a commercial sounding one. It's also one of the shortest song on the album, hanging in at a mere 2:32 minutes. Below their usual excellent standards for this song and the only one I skip on the album
6. Lucretia ============ If you have the volume high enough for this song you will hear a rather scary Dave Mustaine laugh, which makes him sound like a witch. It then kicks into one of the greatest megadeth riffs ever....honest....I'm not just saying it because I can play it. It's the usual insane guitar fest on this song and the lyrics are some what strange, even for Dave Mustaine. I think that he's talking about his cocaine addiction, but I could be wrong. A very stylish track that's nice to listen to.
7. Tornado Of Souls ==================== When Rust In Peace was first released, the song that got most of the attention was this one. Although it was never released it got so much airplay on radio's all over America, due to listeners requests. It's a great song yes, but it's just not that great. There's something lacking in this song which means it just isn't that good in my mind. It's just a very repetitive song and just doesn't sound like a usual, creative Megadeth track. All that aside it is good for the first few minutes and one I can listen to.
8. Dawn Patrol =============== This whole song reminds me so much of a Rage Against The Machine intro riff, which is nice. This is a softer Megadeth song, and at 1:33 minutes, the shortest on the album. Dave Mustaine sounds very subdued for this song and his usual lyrical power cannot be heard. It sounds like he is trying to tone down his voice to a calmer sound something he only pulled off once in his whole career, on 'A Tout Le Monde' from Youthanasia. He doesnt pull it off well on this track, as all the rest of the songs are full of his enthusiastic lyrics and points of view. A nice song to play while your grans round, as it won't cause her to keel over and die of a heart attack.
9. Rust In Peace...Polaris =========================== Finally! Down to the last track at last, and what a way to finish of the album. The drumming at the start of the song just builds up a climax, until the guitars kick in, with exactly the same rhythm as Nick Menza was playing on drums! It’s simple, but I like it. The style then changes for when Dave kicks out the lyrics. The lyrics are again about war, which is on so many of their songs. The lyric "World leaders sell missiles cheap, your stomach turns, your flesh creeps" convinced me that it was all about war, but what do I know? :P a really nice coherent track to finish the album on a high.
Inlay ===== Well as with most Megadeth albums, their mascot, Vic is on the front of the album. He's in a room with 5 world leaders and an alien stuck inside a pod. So as you can probably tell, it's a nice family cover. The inside is like any other album, it includes all the people they would like to thank, pictures of the band and every single lyric.
I've had this album for so long and don't know how much it cost originally, but I can tell you it's only £6.99 at Musiczone, so get yo ass down there. Right, I reckon I've finished at last, so you can all stop reading now, if you even got this far. Oh yeah, all you bloody cheats that just click very helpful and don't actually read the opinions, I'll know you're skimming if you put 'Hi welcome to ciao, nice first op' so don't even try it....you've been warned.
Advantages: Everything Disadvantages: If anything, production is a touch trebly.
This is without a shadow of a doubt the best Megadeth album out there. Featuring the classic lineup of Dave Mustaine, David Ellefson, Nick Menza and Marty Friedman, this album moves at an impressive pace from beginning to end. Quality lyrics, and some of the best music anywhere, from anyone, ever. The songs on here are some of metal's best - Holy Wars... The Punishment Due, Hangar 18, Five Magics, Tornado Of Souls - you just can't argue with it, ...

Review of Rust In Peace (Remastered & Expanded) - Megadeth
Advantages: every track is good but holy wars is classic Disadvantages: not everybody likes thrash
This is in my opinion megadeths finest hour. it would be worth the money for the clkassic Holy Wars - the punisment due alone.
But then add on hanger 18 and a host of other great thrash tracks and what you have is a great album that you play over and over again. it still makes the trip to my car on a regular basis so that I can drive along with my teeth rattling and singing at the top of my voice (not a pretty sight)
The album has few equals in ...

Advantages: Hard, Loud, Musically Exceptional Disadvantages: Very few if any
Rust in Peace i, first and foremost, one of the few definitive and essential items in the Heavy Metal genre. It screams against the evils of society in the menacing lyrics of Holy Wars, Take No Prisoners, and the title track - Rust In Peace. In other places it offers a bleak warning - the sombre-toned Dawn Patrol being heavily underated as part of the narrative of the album. But this analysis is too deep. For megadeth are far more than song-writers. ... ...the genre's most talented front-man (Dave Mustaine) the album is speed/thrash metal's finest hour. Let it not be forgotten that Mustaine was actually lead guitarist in Metallica, and on leaving moved to the vocals - leaving the stage open for what has been a chain of exceptional players. This is the first album with the legendary Marty Friedman, and the solo's are nothing less than amazing throughout. Megadeth's faithful bassist, David Elefson also ...

Advantages: Brilliant Songs Disadvantages: Could have more on the CD
Probably Megadeth's second best album, with Youthanasia being the best. The songs on this have a more heavy feel to them, which Megadeth seem to have lost over the last few years. The classic line-up of Dave M, Dave E, Nick M and Marty F is here, so the songs are excellent. The highlight of this album is the brilliant "Holy Wars... The Punishment Due" and "Tornado Of Souls" which any Megadeth fan will enjoy. If you like real heavy metal, dont go ...

Rolling Stone (11/15/90) - 4 Stars - Excellent - "The arrangements...are consistently riveting...[carrying] Megadeth's individuality into a broader, more open musical arena where nobody can touch them." Spin (12/90) - "...a mature, complex, surprisingly consonant, sparely produced album...Simply put, RUST never sleeps." NME - "...This is a moshing album that really manages to mosh...A veritable treat for the ears...." Musician (1/91, p.92) - "...Don't mistake Megadeath's apocalyptic imagery for doomsday overkill...even without the lyrics, this band's instrumental attack is so ferocious these songs would sound like the end of the world anyway..."

Album Notes
Megadeth: Dave Mustaine (vocals, guitar); Marty Friedman (guitar); David Ellefson (bass guitar, background vocals); Nick Menza (drums, background vocals). After the success of PEACE SELLS BUT WHO'S BUYING in 1986 and SO FAR, SO GOOD, SO WHAT in 1988, Megadeth was fast becoming one of thrash metal's leading outfits. However, the band's hard work was nearly derailed because of the continuous dismissals of band members and chronic substance abuse. Founding members Dave Mustaine (guitar/vocals) and Dave Ellefson (bass) changed their ways before work on their fourth album began, hiring drummer Nick Menza and ex-Cacophony guitarist Marty Friedman. When Megadeth re-emerged with RUST IN PEACE in 1990, metalheads were happy to hear that the changes hadn't dulled their attack in the slightest. "Holy Wars The Punishment Due" is an absolutely crushing opener that shows off the technical expertise of the musicians, while "Hangar 18" covers the familiar ground of alien visitation and government conspiracy. Both videos were put in heavy rotation on MTV's Headbanger's Ball program, which helped land the band a spot on the successful heavy 'Clash of the Titans' tour with Anthrax, Slayer, and Alice In Chains. Other highlights include the heavy hitters "Five Magics," "Lucretia," and "Rust in Peace Polaris."
