Metallica are not as well known in England compared to our US cousins. Over 3 decades they have produced some of the most memorable metal songs and S&M is their latest effort. I've been bought up on Heavy Metal music since a toddler and Metallica is my most favourite of all bands.
This album was released after their live performance at the Berkley Community Theatre in California, it has always been said that Metallica's live performance have always bettered anything they put down on tape. This is no exception but it has had it's critics- me among them. It is an album of their old songs with a twist- it has an orchestra on it (not a new thing in musical circes). Many people have, therefore, branded it boring in comparison to there last efforts. i disagree it may contain the old songs which I have become somewhat familiar to but they are still great songs. The critics may have commented on this album while listening to it on a 2-bit cd player with no sound quality what so ever. Take the CD, put it into a proper sound system with surround sound (such as my friends), twist the volume to just below deafening and listen to the biggest sound I think Metallica have ever produced. I beleive this album could satisfy both Classical and Metal fans alike- thats how good it is.
And for those who have branded it 'boring' because of the regurgitated tunes, just listen to the two new tracks 'No leaf Clover' and 'Human', I beleive 'Clover is one of the best tracks on the album and definetly shows Metallica are not way past their best when it comes to writing new songs. Crank it up and feel it.

You're right. I have sorroundsound with a subwoofer and these beats could make many Hip Hop fans sweat. The sound is so phat, I hardly can't believe. I think, "No Leaf Clover" is one of the best songs ever coming from Metallica.
