Advantages:
S&M is a completely new concept , no other band has ever done anything like it, great sound
Disadvantages:
It has a lack of songs from the first album Kill em all and is missing some classics which would have been interesting to hear such as fade to black and orion

S&M is a groundbreaking album, no band has ever tried working with an orchestra on this scale before and the results are incredible. As shown on the DVD documentary it was an experiment and nobody was sure how it would go till the night of the performance.
The album has a good variety of songs from ride the lightning through to re-load, from old classics such as master of puppets and One through to newer songs like Hero of the day and memory remains. Whatever aspect of metallica you enjoy there is something for everyone on this album, tunes like "the thing that should not be" and "for whom the bell tolls" for the old school fans, "enter sandman" and "fuel" for the more commercial fans or epic ballads like "outlaw torn" and "bleeding me" for the fans of metallicas slower side.
The album also includes two amazing previously unreleased songs - "no leaf clover" and "minus human".
On the more negative hand i think the album is lacking a song from the first album kill em all. It is also rather expensive for an album even though it is a double disc. It would also have been interesting to hear Fade to Black and Orion.
I would reccomend this album to any metal fan looking for something new and different.
