Each 'side' of my tape is 25 mins long and composed of 5 songs each. There is American Indian chanting scattered about some of the songs but mainly it's music. Some are fast and some are slow. It is very hard to review this. The tempo is maintained by varying degrees of drum beats, flutes, panpipes and other instruments that I cannot identify.
Each song seems to tell as story. The upbeat ones are probably rejoyce at catching a buffalo or something and the slower sadder ones may be focussed on the struggle between the American Indians and Americans, or a loss of Buffalo for food. I'm only making assumptions here but it's nice to thing the music is telling you something.
The slower songs have long drawn deep sounds which make me feel totally relazed. I listening to these in a candle lit bath. The chant is slow and sort of 'spoken sung' liek -'oh a oh sarday, oh a oh a saray, an nah a one'. The tempo and beat steadily rises and falls which makes me almost fall asleep and with the gentle vIolin soothingness, it's wonderful to click on and get into bed listening to.
The beaty ones make me want to get up and dance around a big fire with paint on my face and a feather headdress. They really put you in the spirit of American Indian life and rejoyce with high chanting, singing, drum beat, shakers, tamberines etc... but at the same time, it's not like one big squel which makes you cringe - it's actual music.
I don't know the name for each song and trying to write about each one would be even harder than trying to review them as a whole. All I can recommend is that you type this title into a search engine and it will perhaps offer some buying choices or downloads, of which, may allow a pre-sample for you to listen to. Amazon usually offers this though I just tried one and it was completly the wrong songs!
I hope this is helpful; I've tried my best but obviously, I'm out of my comfort zone when it comes to instruments as I'm no budding muscian and trying to review an entirely different culture is, in my opinion, quite inappropriate, not to mention hard!
If you like New Age or relaxing but upbeat music as I do, then this is for you!
