Boyzone - 'Said And Done'
Boyzone are a manufactured boy band, put together by Louis Walsh in 1993. Their first hit was 'Love Me For A Reason', which made the number 2 spot in the charts in November 1994. They enjoyed further success throughout the remainder of the 1990s before splitting in 2000. They paved the way for international smash success band Westlife, also created by Louis Walsh.
Said And Done is Boyzone's first album, released in 1995. It has the hit song 'Love Me For A Reason' at track 3, and a couple of other hits including the cover of Cat Stevens' 'Father & Son'.
These are the tracks:
1. Together 2. Coming Home Now 3. Love Me For A Reason 4. Oh Carol 5. When All Is Said And Done 6. So Good 7. Can't Stop Me 8. I'll Be There 9. Key To My Life 10. If You Were Mine 11. Arms Of Mary 12. Father & Son
I have to say this is one of my least favourite albums. It was cleverly made at the time, Walsh wishing to create an album in a hurry while Boyzone's initial fan frenzy was prevalent amongst teenage girls. However, it contains a bunch of average tunes from a band with little musical input of their own at the beginning of their career.
I do like a couple of the tunes. Some of them are instantly recognisable, such as 'Love Me For A Reason', 'Father & Son' and 'Key To My Life', but the rest fall by the wayside, with the exception of 'Arms Of Mary' which I actually quite like.
Conclusion
An average pop album released on the back of Take That's success. Boyzone were lucky that Take That split in 1996. They took over the boy band spotlight and this helped their album success in the following years.
'Said and Done' is typical of mid 1990s boy band albums in that it is out of date a mere 10 years later. This album may be your thing if you are a fan of Boyzone, as it is not a horrible CD to listen to, but you may be better off getting their more recent release entitled 'Boyzone By Request'. It contains their hits and is a better album.
The album is available from amazon.co.uk for £4.47 new.
