...I was introduced to the cafe del mar series by a friend back in 1995, what a long time ago! I have never been to the famed cafe in Ibiza, but have purchased all the volumes in this series upto Vol 6. I stopped here because the man that puts them togther stopped, there are others and i'm sure they are good, but they won't be as good as this! Jose Padilla is the master mind behind volumes 1-6, he has such a good understanding of music and the way that it can influence moods and feelings and his selections on the cds are outstanding. I will review each of the 6 as I get the time, but here we will deal with the first... There are 12 tracks on the cd, I think you can still by it in the shops but remeber that it is now 10 years old!! This volume mixes tracks by Leftfield, Underworld, A man called adam and others, The penguin cafe orchestra... Read review

Review of Royal Philharmonic Orchestra Plays The Music Of Meat Loaf, T - Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (The) by midd1etony

Advantages: A top quality orchestra playing Meat Loaf, great back or foreground music
Disadvantages: As predicted, some of the songs aren't full length.

...This CD is just what it claims to be, classic Meaty favourites performed by a full blown orchestra (I didn't know there was a piano in an orchestra, but there is in this one {there may even be a guitar but I can't remember}). The songs are performed to the highest quality and are instantly recognisable (assuming you know the original of course). This album is full of tracks spanning Bat 1 right up to Welcome to the Neighbourhood, and although epics like "I'd do anything for love" have been cut down to under 6 minutes, you get good value for money. I bought my copy on ebay for £4, but would have happily paid double now I've heard it. It'll be great background music for cocktail parties or anything that needs jazzing up, and I particularly enjoy listening to it as I drift to sleep at night...... Read review

Review of Bach: Concertos for 2 Harpsichords by Rogerbyname

Advantages: Light, clear, could be played over and again
Disadvantages: Perhaps lacks a bit of magic or sparkle

...If I was to think of performers I would choose to play my favourite pieces of music, then I would not readily think of the Oregon Bach Festival Chamber Orchestra. But a friend of mine who played in the orchestra tipped me off that this was a good one. So I got hold of the CD, opened a bottle of red and sat back with an open mind. Surprise surprise, it's good. Enthusiastic playing for sure, with plenty of joie de vivre. The typical American attention to detail slightly grates with my British sense of spontaneity, but the flawless phrasing, breathing (and no doubt bowing too) and dynamics work in the overall performances because of the lack of indulgence in the tempi. Bach can all too easily sound like a mathematical exercise written out in notes, but there is a lightness and deftness of touch here in the conducting that lifts this out... Read review
