07) Victory Is Won - [05:20]
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Unmistakable instrumental. It reminds me of some older Santana, such as "SambaPaTi" it could even be a remake of "I Love You Too Much" but it isn't. It's in the same vein however. If you want a slow, relaxing, dreamy tune to listen to, that is also full of emotional, deep music, you wouldn't go wrong with this one. There's a fair bit of great keyboard work on this track, plus of course Carlos Santana's guitar talking to you throughout. This track is also featured on the live DVD concert, "Supernatural Live". I rate this 10/10.
08) America - [04:35]
...70's nostalgia is with us in a big way. On TV we have retro shows like the brilliant 'Life On Mars' in design Brown a mainstay colour of 70's design is back in and in music many bands are creating songs that would be just as home in the mid 70's charts as they are in today's hit list. From the Scissor Sisters to Mika the sounds of the seventies are no more a distant memory. Even the prawn cocktail is back! It's no surprise that this trend has also hit advertisers and some of you may have noticed that a M & S food advert used a very distinctive guitar music as it's backdrop…you know the one "This is not just a pie this is a M&S pie stuffed with rich blah, blah, blah". Most people don't realise that this piece of music 'SambaPaTi' was off a 1970's album 'Abraxas' by Santana who were also responsible for one of the seminal double albums...
...The San Francisco Bay Area rock scene of the late '60s was one that encouraged radical experimentation and discouraged the type of mindless conformity that's often plagued corporate rock. When one considers just how different Santana, Jefferson Airplane, Moby Grape and the Grateful Dead sounded, it becomes obvious just how much it was encouraged. In the mid-'90s, an album as eclectic as Abraxas would be considered a marketing exec's worst nightmare. But at the dawn of the 1970s, this unorthodox mix of rock, jazz, salsa and blues proved quite successful. Whether adding rock elements to salsa king Tito Puente's "Oye Como Va," tembracing instrumental jazz-rock on "Incident at Neshabur" and "SambaPaTi" or tackling moody blues-rock on Fleetwood Mac's "Black Magic Woman," the band keeps things unpredictable yet cohesive. Many of the Santana...
