spending a lot of time in Brussels at the time and got to know the song from radio and TV airplay there. I can only begin to imagine how many francophone singers must have been sickened to see an English native speaker snaffle this wonderful song and have a huge hit with it in France, but to give Arena her due, she pulled it off with great aplomb.
She released a greatest hits compilation back in 2004 but since then most of her output has been released for French audiences only until the 2007 release of ?Songs of Love and Loss?.

The original concept for ?Songs of Love and Loss? was a Dusty Springfield covers album. I have to say from the off I am delighted that this idea fell by the wayside ? Arena has a lovely voice but she isn?t in Springfield?s league.

Having heard Frank Turner's "The First Three Years", an album which reflected on his first few years work as a solo artist after leaving Million Dead, there was no way I couldn't listen to more of his music. After all, the genre he works in, mainly folk based but with frequent rock twists, was one I enjoy listening to and my first experience with his work proved that he was very adept within that field.
Compilations like that can be a bit patchy due to their nature, so it seemed only fair I judge him not only on that, but also on his studio work. Fortunately, the version of "The First Three Years" I picked up also came packaged with his second studio album, "Love, Ire & Song", so I didn't have to go too far to get a taste of Turner's studio work.

Billy Connolly is a comedian you either love or hate. I am one of those people who can go into hysterical laugher just looking at him. If you like things to be clean and politically correct, then this Billy Connolly DVD, like most of his other recordings, is not for you. I have kept it as clean as possible using "bleeps" where bad language is freely used on the DVD.
I first became aware of Billy ("The Big 'Yin") back in the early seventies when a Glaswegian friend of mine played an LP of his.
