Unlike most metal albums, SATELLITE is geared towards the subject of life and energy, and it works well. The tracks are lively and feel like a breath of fresh air. Metal music is a diverse genre. However, listen to a lot of it, and you'll find that it consists mostly of large men with long, black hair, screaming about pain, anger and misery. However, P.O.D. have rubbed the black make-up off their faces, wiped the tears from their eyes, and have decided to shout about something a bit more cheerful.

The emotion that the band funnel into the music sounds genuine, like they actually mean it. The tunes are catchy, whilst at the same time staying heavy enough to please most metallers. Highlights include 'Boom' and 'Youth of the Nation', two well thought-out, well written tracks that front the first half of the album.
It could be slightly better, but generally this is worth the money, especially if your looking for a more optimistic alternative to death metal. All in all, a great achievement.
This album shouldn't even be considered - terrible.
I got it when it came out, and 'lost' it within a week. Never have I bought a CD and immediately disliked it so much that I never listen to it again. To me, this opitomises the whole 'Rap Metal' movement - weak.
It is important to remember that this review is solely my OPINION. So before you all start going nuts at me, I'm sure to some people this is a great album.
I personally couldn't stand ...

Advantages: original / energetic Disadvantages: 1 song = without jar nothing (why why lol)
with expertise drumming and immaculate rock rapping.
The album's second smash hit single, "Youth of the Nation," was influenced in part by the school shootings at Santana High School, Columbine High School and Granite Hills High School, and its lyrics make you think. 'Satellite' also is popular, and is my personal favorite, and is fantastic to listen to. Their music incorporates influences primarily from alternative metal, rapcore and reggae.
Also, the concluding track of the album, "Portrait" received a number of awards including a Grammy nomination for Best Metal Performance in 2002. The album went on to become RIAA-certified triple platinum.
This really is a great album to own P.O.D fan or not, and an essential addition for any rock music collection. And I'm sure many people wish to know what P.O.D stands for so?? The band's name is ...
Advantages: Some great tracks that i havnt been able to find Disadvantages: A few weak links!

P.O.D.: Sonny (vocals); Marcos (guitar, background vocals); Traa (bass, background vocals); Wuv (drums, background vocals). Additional personnel: Joel Derouin (violin); Larry Corbett (cello); Howard Benson (keyboards, loops); MikeSki (programming); H.R., Eek-A-Mouse, Christian Lindskog, D.J. Harper, Jonnie Hall, Colin Sasaki, Nils Montan, Laurie Schillinger, Meagan Moore, Ayana Williams, Healy Moore (background vocals). Recorded at Bay 7, Valley Village, California and Sparky Dark, Calabassas, California. "Alive" was nominated for the 2002 Grammy Award for Best Hard Rock Performance. "Youth Of The Nation" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Hard Rock Performance. "Portrait" was nominated for the 2003 Grammy Awards for Best Metal Performance. Coming off its breakthrough 1999 major-label debut THE FUNDAMENTAL ELEMENTS OF SOUTHTOWN, P.O.D. returns with SATELLITE, a stunning follow-up whose mix of messages and musical styles puts them head-and-shoulders above their rap-metal peers. Fans get plied with crunching guitars while frontman Sonny Sandoval's rap-flavored vocals perfectly complement the band's rhythmic assault on the bare-knuckle single "Alive" and the equally brutal "Boom." Still proudly brandishing its Christian beliefs, P.O.D. bypasses proselytizing while employing arrangements that go beyond the typical nu-metal barrage. A children's choir is featured on a chiming treatise about school violence ("Youth Of The Nation"), Rage-flavored staccato riffs pepper a testimony to faith (the title track), and Sandoval's late mother is paid tribute with a gorgeous elegy overflowing with acoustic guitar, harmonies and a groove ("Thinking About Forever"). As if stylistic maturation weren't enough, P.O.D. also pays tribute to their influences via some well-executed guest shots. Bad Brains vocalist H.R. appears on the kind of reggae/hardcore hybrid that his old band mastered ("Without Jah, Nothin'") while toaster Eek-A-Mouse impresses on the mellower-but-no-less intriguing dub-flavored workout ("Ridiculous").
Album Reviews
Rolling Stone (9/27/01, pp.67-8) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...Explodes beyond the confines of what has become a played-out sound... songs on a passion so fierce they're almost exhausting to listen to.... Without resorting to ham-fisted angst, P.O.D. push all the right emotional buttons..." Q (1/02, p.106) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...heavy, angry, and very, very loud....many songs have messages of peace and spirituality....their Gen-X angst sounds genuine..." CMJ (10/1/01, p.16) - "...[Its] honest spiritual subject matter coupled with crack-your-skull riffs work like a well-oiled machine..."
