NAME OF LOCATION: Deva Roman Experience, off Bridge Street, at Chester.
BACKGROUND: Whilst walking up Bridge Street on a weekend trip to Chester, my boyfriend Robert and I were trying to find the toy museum (we were following the pedestrian black signs but never found it), we saw an advertisement for the Deva Roman Experience, which had a cut-out of a roman soldier and some red leaflets on it. Curious, we stopped to pick one up and decided to visit this instead of the nonexistent toy museum.

Advantages: Laser Quest, Sayers, Variety of Shops Disadvantages: Congested with tourists in season
Chester is an old Roman settlement (Deva) built on the River Dee. It has a wide appeal to tourists the world over and receives many million per year. Why do tourists flock to Chester in such large numbers then?
As said Chester is a Roman settlement and evidence can still e seen of this today, yet there is also mock Tudor front buildings, and more modern buildings all in close proximity which gives Chester a unique look not seen in many cities throughout the nation.
Chester is very good if you want variety of shops. There are all the usual national chain stores - Boots, BHS, Debenhams, Wollies, Virgin, HMV, McDonalds etc. Yet many smaller, more independent stores can be found - such as the F1 shop on Bridge Street Row, or 'The Gadget Shop' type stores, Bug and Natural World in the Grosvenor precinct.

Personnel: Miten (vocals, guitar); Deva Premal (vocals, keyboards); Kamal (vocals, Tibetan bells); Jalalo, Susanna, Carman, Vatayana, Greg Lions (vocals); Steve Berry (guitar); Praful (bansuri flute, soprano saxophone); Kit Walker (keyboards, bass, programming); Maneesh De Moor (keyboards); Ty Burhoe (tabla); Greg Sheehan (tambourine). Deva Premal music is a favorite of yoga studios and body workers around the globe. Her traditional chants sung in non-traditional yet reverent ways have generated a huge following for the music she makes with her partner Miten. Premal's silky voice invites comparisons to Sade and Enya, but her choice of material is unique. World chants and traditional ethnic folk songs are brought up to date and given top-notch production values that showcase Premal's wistful vocals. SATSANG is the pair's first live recording and it features some of the best-loved tracks from their eight studio albums. Traditionally satsang is an evening of learning and enlightenment and an opportunity to hear the truth. Premal and Miten take that concept to heart and attempt to sing their personal truths through a set of Hindu chants, Yoruba songs, and other world-music favorites. Performing in a satsang is much different than a concert recording, as the audience does not applaud or make any noise whatsoever. Even so, the live performance with no studio overdubs generates palpable energy. On Yemaya Assessu, a track originally featured on the 1998 album THE ESSENCE, Premal expresses a connection with this Yoruban chant to the mother goddess. The singer's sincerity penetrates the recording and is unlike anything that could be captured in a studio.
