Originality Groundbreaking
Lyrics Sublime
Quality and consistency of tracks A couple of weak links
How does it compare to the artist's other releases Outstanding
Value for Money

Advantages: A dream among musicians .   The self titled album & # 8220;Savage Garden& # 8221; is one that defines the band .  With songs such as Truly Madly Deeply and I want you, how could it not be a hit .  A bumpy ride with some inadvertent depictions of love .
Disadvantages: A pure and unrecognised talent shown within this album is pitiful .  I pity anyone that has not had the chance to enjoy such wondrous music .  The disadvantages are that the band have little or no recognition in the UK .

Recommend to potential buyers: yes

Well now – it seems I have written about just about every other Savage Garden item, so (I have even written about “the animal song” by Savage Garden – although when it came to posting I found that there isn’t a bloody category, DAMN YOU CIAO!!) I thought that I had better bring you the original piece. The waking of the Garden. This is pure Savage in action. The original is always best and nothing could be more correct. This was savage garden as it was intended by Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones. Before the band was shredded by record labels. This is Savage as very few knew them. Before the birth of Affirmation. Right back to the days of Truly Madly Deeply.

Ok let’s have a look at the first album that Savage Garden produced…. May I present to you

Savage Garden – Savage Garden.

1. To the Moon and Back (5.41)
Well – this is one that was one of the better known ones, not quite the defining single for the band, but this was the original release by the Garden Boys. Depicting visions of wanting to float away with a loved one. Unusual depictions granted but that’s what I have come to love about the band. The unusual twists and turns taken with the songs is most apparent in this album, and it’s brought to life in this song.

2. I want You (3.52)
This one is my all time favourite Savage Garden song. This one has won me many trophies in the old karaoke jams. Takes a while to learn but once its there it stays with you. Darren Hayes has never shown himself to be more unique than is apparent with this song. There is a pure and untouched beauty within this one that has firmly wedged itself deep within the bowls of the music industry. Commonly referred to as “the chick-a-cherry-cola song” it reaps originality. Even if you don’t bother with the album, you’re really missing out if you don’t get hold of this song somehow.

3. Truly Madly Deeply (4.38)
My more frequent readers will already know of my love for this song, as my review of it shows. This song couldn’t be more wonderful. Its melodicy and rhythmical lyrical content is of an unheard of standard. The highest calibre music. One for the lovers out there, you all deserve to be acquainted with this one. Truly Madly Deeply screams truth and new beginnings. When presented with genius lyrics like “tears devour me” and “all that you need will surely come” who could resist its charm. One for the record books. This tantalising song is sure to please even the most meticulous pallets.

4. Tears of Pearls
A much faster beat than its predecessor, tears of pearls captures the beauty of expressive emotional contact with flair and style. It speaks of the consequences of keeping feelings locked up. Debating whether or not love is a trap. Confusion and devotion – this song covers it all, every emotion associated with love is described somewhere in this truly fantastic song. The twist and turns of a relationship, the death of old feelings and the birth of new ones – Tears of Pearls is a definitive song with little recognition.

5. Universe (4.20)
Does the world really move when you find the one you love? Well, this song would say the answer is no – for it isn’t the world that moves, it’s the universe. Confusion is apparent in the song also, speaking of the feelings during a loving relationship and during a painful break up. Taking things slowly isn’t a problem, communication is the answer. This one in my opinion was the inspiration for the hit single “Crash & Burn”. Communication is the key, if only we could find the key.

6. Carry On Dancing (3.45)
Would you carry on dancing if you had lost the one you loved? Could you carry on dancing if you had lost the one you loved? This is the most powerful song on the album, the introductive sound when compared with the previous songs is so immensely hard hitting that you feel totally blown away by its impact. My advice is turn up the speakers and pump up the bass boost! No matter what we go through, we should always carry on, carry on with our lives, not wither and die. A very clever and yet unusual loves song. Similarities with the Affirmation album include the song “Gunning Down Romance” as that to holds a certain power within its centre. It’s a very interesting concept to look at this album and then look at Affirmation, the development of Savage Garden is so apparent, it’s almost frightening.

7. Violet (4.04)
An unusual beginning for Savage Garden, starting with a knock at the door followed by the background often found in a pub. This puts the listener in a state of uncertainty, allowing the song to enter the mind in an almost hypnotic way. Allowing the mind to vent the feelings bottled up inside. Definitely one of shear splendour and individuality. I would recommend this one to anyone.

8. Break Me Shake Me (3.23)
This song describes what happens to the person that gets burned by the other person’s actions. This emphasises what happens when one is pulled from pillar to post without regard or feeling for the person involved. Quite a sad and sadistic look at love and one that I am inclined to agree with.

9. A Thousand Words (4.00)
This song seems to travel back in time, and brings you out at the beginning of the album; the space theme is set once again with the unusual choice of instrumentals. It shows how we hide our faces behind a wall of big words. It speaks of how this is a waste of time when the answer is held deep within the mind and the soul. How it was never a lie in the first place because the truth within turn the words from one meaning to another.

10. Promises (3.31)
This song shows the true meaning of promises and the devastating effects that can occur from breaking such promises. Something of an advice giving song. A much faster and less powerful song than the others. It still has an element of delicacy and exceptionality but never the less isn’t as seductive as the others included on the album. A presumptuous song not without its charm but as a general rule I wasn’t hugely keen on this one.

11. Santa Monica (3.34)
The finale to the album and what a finale it makes. Similar to the Affirmation Finale “you can still be free” it boasts qualities that are indescribable. It prophesizes about how people where masks metaphorically speaking. Live this one is usually performed as an acoustic and whilst many songs loose there impact when played acoustically, this couldn’t be more untrue here. Santa Monica actually seems to thrive on being performed as an acoustic; it actually seems to have more of an impact. Strange I know, but that’s what is so undeniably wonderful about this band.

Anyone missing out on such genius is missing out big time. It’s a triumph in history. An album that really is truly unrecognised. If you have heard Affirmation and you liked it, then I guarantee you will like this. No matter what your individual music taste, I can almost make it a certainty that there will be at least one song within this album that you will enjoy.

Thank you for reading,

Regards,
