For me this is Eurythmics at their best.I can remember when Beethoven came out as a single and thinking Oh my god,What are they doing! I thought it was the oddest record ever,but when I saw the video it all made sense.And I love every track on this album.We used to go to aclub and they would play the dance of Beethoven and to hear it loud in a club it's great.
I'll go through the highlights of this album but really every track is good,theres not a weak song here at all.
Let's start with Beethoven,As I said,it is a really odd track but works great.After you've seen the video you understand that it is about a frustrated housewife type.It's got a heavy beat that is constant and the lyrics are great.My only qualm about the remastered album is that they should have put the Dance Mix version on instead of the Extended Philharmonic version.
Next is You Have Placed A Chill In My Heart.For me I think this is a really sad song but uplifting at the same time.Fantastic.
Shame was the 3rd single from the album and did not do very well as a single which is a shame(no pun intended) because this is my favourite track on the album.For me it's got it all.I just love the lyrics though,very clever and the remastered version has the dance mix of Shame.
The title track Savage is a dark track,heavy beats,electric guitars and dark lyrics and it's fantastic.
I Need A Man blasts in.Rocky,Raunchy and unforgiving.Annie really belts this one out and her rap in the middle is classic.
The final track I'll review is Brand New Day.It's starts off quite sad in accapella with just Annie singing and on backing vocals then halfway through it just bursts into life.It lifts you up and ends the original album perfectly.
This remastered version is truly wonderful.The original album itself was perfection but to have extra tracks put on and to get a full colour booklet with loads of extra pics of the stunning Annie is just heaven.
