Advantages Advantages Some convincing acting from the leads

Disadvantages Disadvantages A lot of bad language, scenes of excessive drug use

Warning: this is a review about a hard-hitting film about the rise and fall of a Cuban drug dealer - the film contains a LOT of bad language. I've tried not to include the actual bad language in the review but you might have to guess at some of it from the quotes I've listed towards the end. Brian De Palma's Scarface was released in 1983 and given an X rating by the censor board 3 times before being changed to an 18. Al Pacino played the lead role of Tony Montana with Steven Bauer as Manny and Michelle Pfeiffer as Elvira. At 163 minutes in length it’s a long film; hopefully my review will help ... more

Advantages Advantages Great acting, storyline, time-span.

Disadvantages Disadvantages none although might be too long for some

Scarface is quite simply the best film i have ever seen. I know others may point to Tarantino's masterpiece Pulp Fiction or Francis Ford Coppolla's iconic Godfather, but for me Scarface reigns supreme as the 'greatest film of all time'. Set in 1980's America, the film tells the story of Cuban refugee Tony Montana played superbly by the wonderous Al Pacino. Fed up with sweating it out in a dingy kitchen Tony begins work with local mobster Frank Lopez and initially stays loyal. However the bigger and better things Tony dreams of leads him into somewhat questionnable dealings with a Bolivian drug ... more

Advantages Advantages Al Pacino acting his socks off!

    Disadvantages Disadvantages none

In the 1980's America opened its doors and took in thousands of cuban immigrants that Fidel Castro had allowed out of jail on the condition they left Cuba, they were known as the Cuban Crime Wave. Scarface tells the fictional gangster story of one of these immigrants, Tony Montana, played by the great Al Pacino. The storyline itself is a remake of a 1920's film by the same name about bootlegging alchol as opposed to selling coke. The film chronicles the chase of the 'American dream' by Tony, his best friend Manny, and a few others of no real consequence (although I do like Ernie!). With ... more

Title: Scarface Director: Brian De Palma Cast: Al Pacino, Michelle Pfeiffer, Robert Loggia, Certificate: 18 Runtime: 170 mins Director Brian DePalma, writer Oliver Stone and actor Al Pacino at their peak. Each of them producing their finest work. Never bettered. Scarface is a masterpiece of modern cinema and it’s taken me until 2011 to see it. I recently took the opportunity to watch it. I was seriously perturbed by the 2 hours and 50 minute running time, but as I sat down to watch it the time flew by. This is one of the most compelling films I’ve ever seen. Excellent acting, brilliant ... more
