For Schindlers List John Williams had to produce something quite different to his other work which has comprised mainly of symphonic adventure/action/sci-fi and here he does just that quite beautifully. He has realised that the soundtrack needed to be very subtle and non intrusive at the same time managing to create particular themes for the different elements or characters in the film - which is generally how a good score should be comprised. He hardly ever uses more than a few instruments in his orchestra and the hugely memorable and emotional jewish violin main theme is a perfect musical homage to the plight of the holocaust victims and survivors. There is also a very uplifting choral song for many voices which epitomises the strength that these people had to show. Hugely moving score to probably the most emotionally harrowing film ever made.
