Schubert - (The) Collector's Edition

Advantages: Sublime, soulful songs by Schubert
Disadvantages: Sung in German

...The Music This is the first of two albums of Schubert’s Lieder composed for piano and voice. Schubert composed the music to the work of such classical poets including, Goethe, Collins and Shakespeare. Each Lied tells a story of its own. The lyrics are sung in German but a translation is included in the cover. I won't give a track by track listing of the CD as this is easily available but will mention some of my personal favourites. 1. Lieder: Die Forelle: The Trout (Schubert) A playful a cheerful tale of a trout's journey through a stream. Most people will know and love Schubert's piano quintet also entitled The Trout. 5. Advantages: Some tracks on second CD really good
Disadvantages: Some repetition between CDs

...Overall, both CDs contain a fantastic selection of the music from the film and if you loved watching it then you will love listening to the music on its own, I do. The question therefore is whether to go for the Collectors Edition or just the normal soundtrack CD? In my opinion it is worth paying the extra money to get the second CD in the Collectors Edition compared to the 'basic' soundtrack CD. The main difference between the two is that the second CD has a lot more instrumental-only tracks compared to the single soundtrack CD which just has is all the main songs. If you just want a basic CD with all your favourite songs then you can't go wrong with the normal soundtrack, but if you really want to capture the full atmosphere of the film (and are a fan of tracks without words as well as those with them) then I would fully reccomend... Advantages: Comprehensive collection
Disadvantages: Higher price

...Many people will say "who?" when you tell them you just bought this collectors edition. Mention the names of the band members and watch the reaction. FInally reissued after too many years in the wildrness these tracks are sounding better then ever. People after a taste should go for the standard release. To fans in the know THIS is the version to get. With the way the discs are presented you know you are in for a treat. The expanded booklet notes and photos (twice as much) over and above the standard version make up for the higher price. All the Wilbury classics are here along with some videos (although I am sure there are some missing). The set is a limited run and all are numbered, so don't hessitate and miss out.... Read review
