And, although there are no instant megahits like "Swallowed" here, Rossdale's throaty Cobain-influenced rasp on songs like the downbeat "The Chemicals Between Us" and "Prizefighter", coupled with Pulsford's meaty, chunky guitar sound, means that there's more than enough here to keep the fans happy.--Everett True

Bush have once again shown us why they are one of the biggest bands in America. "The Science of Things" is packed with great songs in their classic grung rock style. "Warm Machine" and "The Chemicals Between Us" are the main stand out tracks and with "Letting the Cables Sleep" they show us their mellower side.
However, despite them having another top album under their belt, being one of America's biggest selling rock acts and being British, they have still failed to truly capture the British market. Some may say that this is due to different musical tastes of Britain and America but I think it is surly only a matter of time before Gavin Rossdale and co. concur their home nation.
Advantages: Great price and a must for any cd collection! Disadvantages: None that I can see.
...I am listening to The Science of Things by Bush. This is their latest 12 track album from 1999. The tracks vary in style, from the rocky sound of The Chemicals Between Us and The Disease of the Dancing Cats, to the melodic sound of Dead Meat and Letting the Cables Sleep. Song writer Gavin Rossdale seems to have included a song for every mood! The full lyrics for each and every song are neatly included in the album's cover along with a few pictures ...

Review of Science Of Things, The - Bush
‘The Science of Things’ is Bush’s third album offering from 1999. It opens with ‘Warm Machine’ which is classic Bush sound – rocking guitars and Gavin’s guttural vocals. ‘The Chemicals Between Us’ was the first single taken from the album and is the first indication that Bush have progressed as a band. The sound although still Bush guitars, changes with drumbeats sounding more electronic. ‘English ... ...distant vocals with accompanying strings, piano and echoing guitars and subtle electronic beats – one of the highlights on the album. ‘The Science of Things’ ends with the typical rocker (‘Mindchanger’) expected of Bush and sums up the album with its experimentation and reliable well-known rock songs. ...

Bush have proved once again that they rock, well...at least sort of. Their latest almbum demonstrates exactly why millions of Americans have rushed out to grab a piece of the phenomenon - with sell-out massive stadium tours in the states that were booked up within minutes.
This album shows their classic style - grunge-rock performed to perfection. "Warm Machine" is the pace-setter, livening the atmosphere and showing just why these guys are hot ...

Reviews which might be of interest for "Science Of Things, The - Bush"
This is the third studio album from one of the UK’s biggest rock groups, probably bigger in America than here in the UK but this album proves how good Bush are. “The Science of Things” is significantly different to Bush’s previous albums “Sixteen Stone” and “Razorblade Suitcase”, but this doesn’t make it any worse, it’s just different and the album deserves more credit than it received.

The album inlay is very strange; it has the lyrics to all of the songs. For each song there is two pages and there is some very strange art work, which relates to each of the songs, along with the lyrics. This is a very good album, please read on to find out more about the album.

Advantages: Good music, stunning booklet Disadvantages: Not for pop lovers
I'd heard about Bush from a couple of gothic friends and thiis was to be my first ever rock CD.I had already heard "The chemicals between us" and since it was a phat song and I was feeling rich I bought their newest album "The Science Of Things" at first glance it looked good and whilst the first song was playing i flicked through the lyrics booklet and it was really colourful and used strange fonts throughout. After all the songs had played I was uhappy because all the song sounded the same and it cost me £14.99 ! but after listening to it a few times it got better and better and now each song sounds totally different and theres not one song on it that i dont like.
This CD is for rock and alternative fans not pop lovers.

Advantages: progression Disadvantages: not as many grungy tracks
After the more straight forward rock of the last two album ( Deconstructed doesn't count ). Bush released what is probably their most varied album yet. I think it definitely shows a big progression in the sound.
On this album Rossdale's lyrics actually make a bit more sense and actually give the songs more meaning as a result. The band have also expereimented with beat samples on tracks such Altered States and it actuallt works. This is an album that grows on you with every listen. Chemicals Between Us actually got some recognition as a good tune from some of the UK press as well. There is still an element of anger in the music but then you get slow songs like Letting the Cables Sleep which is probablt one of the best songs on the album. I don't why it hasn't been released as a single in the UK as you would probably see Bush denting ...

Album Notes
Bush: David Guy Parsons, Robin James Goodridge, Gavin McGregor Rossdale, Nigel Kenneth Pulsford. Additional personnel: Gwen Stefani (vocals); Rosie Wetters (cello, strings); Sacha Puttnam (strings, piano); Aidan Love, Jony Rockstar (programming). Wired Strings includes: Claire Ashby, Alison Dodds (violin); David Lasserson (viola). Producers include: Gavin McGregor Rossdale. On THE SCIENCE OF THINGS, Bush manages to provide a link to the sound of the band's previous albums without stagnating in a post-grunge mire of hard-rock cliches. Old-school fans needn't worry, Bush's trademark style is well represented here, as on the grinding, piledriver riffs of "English Fire" and that vaunted, Nirvana-derived loud-soft-loud dynamic shift on the alternately foreboding and explosive "Dead Meat." There's a distinct musical progression here as well, though. With its looped-sounding drum track, "The Chemicals Between Us" nods to electronica production values. "Letting the Cables Sleep" and "40 Miles From the Sun" are effectively pensive ballads that provide a valuable respite from the band's unrelenting sonic attack, though the songs' underlying darkness keeps them from seeming anomalous. If any further doubts lingered about Bush's refusal to be pigeonholed, there's even a guest vocal turn from No Doubt singer Gwen Stefani.
Album Reviews
Q (12/99, p.132) - 3 stars out of 5 - "...leading big-riff hard-and-heavy [music] into a new age of howling and roaring about inner pain....the band pulls out a plethora of enlivening noises and notions...main songsmith Gavin Rosedale finds his way into the megawatt opera..." CMJ (11/8/99, p.3) - "...a blitzkrieg of slashing guitar lines topped by Gavin's warm, raspy pipes....Bush has finally made a science of its lingering, catchy rock."
