The Glenn Miller Orchestra UK was founded by Ray McVay in the 80's . This was done after talks with the Glenn Miller Estate, who had listened to many of Ray McVay's tracks.
Who is Ray McVay?
Ray McVay was born in the late 30's in Scotland. He became a professional musician at the tender age of 13 as a rocking sax player. In the 50's he became a music director for many big names such as Gene Vincent, Eddie Cochran, Conway Twitty and Billy Fury.
As Rays name got bigger and better known in the music industry, and fronted his own show band known as the Ray McVay Orchestra. He started to play for the Mecca Organization playing around the country before headlining at Mecca's big venue, the Lyceum Ballroom in London's west end.. The film was actually adapted from a book by Giles Foden of the same name. The title comes from the fact that Amin has a great love for all things Scottish and actually proclaims himself, "The Last King of Scotland."
I think the scenery and countryside contributed to this story as well. It was great to see a different culture and country in view and all the things that took palce there. I think it also help the reader to better understand just what the population of Uganda went through during these terrible times.
The DVD is rated 15 as it contains strong violence, gruesome images, sex and language. I did find this film quite gruesome but I think it needed to be to tell the story properly but definitely not one I recommend for kids. One of the most misleading film/book titles ever in my opinion!

This is the tale of how the films protagonist Dr Nicholas Garrigan (James McAvoy) is taken under the wing of Ugandan president, Idi Amin (Forrest Whitaker). Amin just so happens to be a brutal dictator with a bit of a problem with trusting people.
Garrigan had just finished university and felt like he was trapped into following on in exactly the same manner as his father, being a doctor in Scotland. He decided he needed to make a clean break and therefore flew out to Uganda for serving both the purposes of being great help to the health of the locals and also to gain some sense of adventure.
On a chance meeting, Amin expresses his somewhat bizarre love of Scotland ...
