Trane's greatest gift. Unsurpassed.
Review of Love Supreme, A - John Coltrane by graememt

Advantages: In a word.....Genius
Disadvantages: Might just stop you from getting anything done

...face". The album does indeed have a very spiritual theme running through it and you can feel all the conflicts and beauty of a life in progress. Later Coltrane (tenor sax) took band mates McCoy Turner (piano), Jimmy Garrison (Bass) and Elvin Jones (Drums) into Van Gelder recording studio in New Jersey USA on December 9th 1964 and laid down what has become a landmark in Jazz. Opening with "Acknowledgement", a three note bass riff that Coltrane weaves his improvisatory lines over in free time, extending his ideas as he goes whilst cymbals crash in the background, this leads into what for me is the best track of the four as the drums pick up the beat and he goes on a solo masterclass that never sounds like just technique. It is "true" music, straight from his heart to the horn. "Resolution" is a more up-tempo number, with an almost Arabic... Read review

Award winning compilation
Review of Annual 2004, The - Various Artists by maphack

Advantages: Box set, great variety of music, 3 CD's, some awesome tracks
Disadvantages: None, if you like dance music you'll love this

...'The Annual' compilations from Ministry of Sound are realeased yearly and are continously getting awards such as Best Mix CD from Dance Award shows. This is the most recent release and I was lucky enough to receive a copy for christmas 2003. The compilation includes the hottest tracks released throughout the year, some recently released tracks and some of the best tracks to hit the scene in the past 5 years. The box set includes 63 tracks split into 3 CD's. The first CD is more of a trance CD featuring some of the best tracks of 2003 including Angel City, Ian Van Dahl, Tomcraft, Benny Benassi, Divine Inspiration, DJ Sammy, Agnelli & Nelson and many more. The second CD's tracks are more house music with some great hits by Milk & Sugar, Room 5, Jason Nevins, Deepest Blue, Layo & Bushwacka, Justin Timberlake, Kurtis Mantronix, and a lot... Read review
