Review of Whatevershebringswesing [Remastered] - Kevin Ayers by treemusicuk

Advantages: Great songs, great playing
Disadvantages: vocals an acquired taste

.... Actually it's my favourite Ayers album of all, containing at least three classic Kev tracks. The album gets off to a sombre start with the heavily orchestrated "There Is Loving", a three-piece suite (sofa so good!) but soon lightens up with the gorgeous ballad "Margaret", Ayers' plummy tones anchoring the flowery sentiments of the lyrics in almost parodic fashion. "Champagne Cowboy Blues" is a spoof of those awful, sentimental Country songs that Granny likes. Like most spoofs it palls on repeated hearing but the part near the end when Kev croaks "goodbye old horse" always cracks me up. "Oh My" is a bit of an old-time swinger while "Lullaby" is a flute-flavoured... well, lullaby. I've left the three best tracks until last. "Stranger In Blue Suede Shoes" is a hilarious tale concerning the pleasures of certain illegal substances, over which David... Read review

Screw you Hear'say
Review of Thinking it Over (Single) by drusilla

Advantages: Great music
Disadvantages: Awful dance routines!

...Liberty are Jess, Michelle, Tony, Kev and Kelli, the five rejects from the ITV phenomenon ‘Popstars’. They are the five wannabe’s who got into the last ten, but were pipped to the post by the people who were to become Hear’say. Having gone through ten (?) gruelling weeks of auditions, we can conclude that they do actually have some talent. Their voices are quite distinctive and unique (to such an extent to where you can instantly tell who’s singing a certain line), as are their personalities, and in both departments they seem to compliment each other perfectly. Their debut single, Thinking It Over, is a pop song, but with elements of R ‘n’ B and garage, and a Mediterranean flavour. It’s a chilled out, catchy dance tune about a girl needing space in a relationship to make sure this is what she wants. In it, the three girls and two... Read review

Take it easy with this great 2nd album
Review of For Everyman - Jackson Browne by pony111

Advantages: Some real Jackson Browne gems on this album
Disadvantages: None

...to performing in many benefit concerts. He does what he can to try and save the planet and to increase knowledge. Although this isn't done in a over-bearing way. *** What are Jackson Browne's concerts like? *** I have seen Jackson twice in the UK, he doesn't visit very often and so it was a real treat. The first time he was with his band and they had selected a song list of the rock numbers - it was fantastic. The second time was an acoustic concert where it was just Jackson and a small sample from his collection of guitars. His fans absolutely love him and many have followed his career for over 35 years. A couple of people commented last time that every concert is different. Apparently Jackson didn't used to like doing requests at his concerts, but I haven't witnessed this side of him - now he actively encourages his fans to shout out and vote... Read review
