In October 2003 I had a one man Art exhibition in Gallerij IZBA in Serbia and Montenegro.
The sequence of events that lead to my show in 2003 started in 1999 when I met a serbian guy called Mileta, we got on very well and started working together.
As a couple of years passed we drifted a little and one day he sent me a message saying come round to mine tonight, I said I would. Unfortunately I had a newish girlfriend and we all know how relationships can affect your friendships and I decided to meet up with her instead of him.
The next day I heard that Mileta had had to go back to Serbia in a hurry, I emailed him for several months without reply and then gave up.
Then in January 2003 I got a surprise email from Mileta asking if I would like to show work in his gallery. At first I didn't want to as I dont travel much ...
Advantages: Start to rebuild Kosovo and their laws/policies Disadvantages: May begin more fighting within the country
I think it is good that Kosovo are moving on from all the trouble that they have had. If they are independent, they can decide their own rules/policies etc and can start to build up their country. I don't think you can really compare England and Scotland to Kosovo and Serbia, as England and Scotland have never had the sam trouble as Kosovo and Serbia. Ok, so they may disagree with things but have never actually fought over different things (not while I have been alive though.) Being independent means that Kosovo can begin to rebuild their country and hopefully other countries will see and respect this decision. If Scotland did want to be independent from England, I don't think this is a problem although I would be frightened about the fighting and arguments that may happen. ...
Advantages: Scotland is an integral part of Great Britain. Disadvantages: Kosovo & Serbia are in religious conflict
Kosovo & Serbia have been at odds for years, primarily through religious issues. It resembles Israel & Palestine. One can even put the Irish into this catagory but common sense prevailed in the Emerald Isle. I have been to Ireland, North & south, 49 times in the past 32 years & I was witness to some unsavoury things but I always believed that one day they could settle their differences at the table. I dont think I will be able to see the same happen in the Balkans or Israel. There is deep religious hatred in these countries, & it is the magority where as Ireland, it was a minority. Scotland has its own parliament & its own set of policies, but there is not the animosity that is so rife in the Balkans & Israel.
