Settin' The Woods On Fire - Hank Williams

Advantages: An absolutely fabulous Harry Potter score that has been worth the wait
Disadvantages: "Do the Hippogriff," "This is the Night" & "Magic Works"

...sagging in the middle of the album. Whereas Williams' music in the first two films started to loose interest towards the end and even Prisoner of Azkaban had its boring moments (most notably "Saving Buckbeak" that at over six minutes didn't offer anything of interest) makes Doyle's approach overall the much better of the two. Likewise Doyle's action music is much more interesting than the tense rhythmic approach that has been Williams' action style for years now. I find Doyle's music much more captivating and entertaining to listen to from beginning to end than when I attempt to listen to any of the Williams' albums. This lifts Goblet of Fire higher in my estimation in the Harry Potter franchise, just beating out Prisoner of Azkaban in excellence. Disadvantages: Where have the old themes gone??

...When Warner Bros announced that John Williams was to take on the composition of the score for “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” (“Sorcerer’s Stone” for any Americans reading) I knew they had made the right decision. I was studying Music at the time and, I will admit without shame, had discussed this at great length with a few other students beforehand. We agreed that it would ‘have’ to be John Williams – the King of Memorable/Cheesy/Inspirational film scores that most have ingrained in the back of their minds. Who could forget the menacing Imperial March as Darth Vader marched into the corridor in “A New Hope”? I think I spent half my childhood running around pretending to be Indiana Jones (accompanied by the famous theme, of course). I heard the score to the Philosopher’s Stone in fragments on the radio... Advantages: Erm.............things can only get better!!!
Disadvantages: Many of the tracks are poor

...him down, such as school teachers, Gary Barlow and previous Musical Directors (Strong, Radio). This combination allows us, and the media, to place him in the niche of "popstar", but "Rudebox" challenges that niche and this is, perhaps, why it was so roundly criticised on first release. It challenges what WE think of him and maybe we're not comfortable with that!! It is a complete departure, and a foolish one! This mistake, in the guise of "development", has added fuel to the critical fire, a fire further fuelled by poor, poor music. Rudebox "Rudebox" is the 10th album (studio and live) released by Robbie Williams, but his first under the Musical Directorship of Stephen "Tin Tin" Duffy. Duffy was an 80's pop star in the electro-pop mould and his influence on this album is total and overwhelming. The tracks are full of 80's... Read review
