Advantages: Fabulous shopping, bargains, great sights Disadvantages: You will be tired and have foot pain at the end of the trip
there is more than four people in your group you're going to need two taxis and obviously that will double your cost.
The ride into the city doesn't take long and I have to say that when we emerged from the Lincoln Tunnel into Manhattan it was everything I expected and more. Hundreds of yellow cabs, honking horns, loud noises and that was only one street in. We arrived at our hotel - the Milford Plaza on Eighth Avenue - and checked in quickly. By this time the jet lag was starting to set in a bit so we just went for a walk outside the hotel and found something to eat.
One of my first memories of NewYork was walking down the road and seeing a fire engine come out of a firehouse and speed down the road, with passers by cheering and clapping them as they went. This was in March 2004, two and a half years after 9/11, and it was ...

Advantages: Brilliant location, modern, big room, huge TV, one of the cheapest hotels Disadvantages: Breakfast is expensive, toilet blocked a couple of times, not enough lifts
The Park Central Hotel NewYork is in a brilliant location on 56th and 7th right in the centre of everything. A 10 minute walk downtown brings you to Times Square, 2 blocks uptown takes you to Central Park, 5th Avenue shopping is just 1 or 2 blocks to the east and a subway station 20 seconds away to take you to wherever else you want to go. Carnegie Hall is directly opposite and the Rockefeller Centre is less than 10 minutes away. The hotel is surrounded by gift shops and cafes and there's a nice little Irish bar just opposite. The location really couldn't get any better.
When we first arrived it was difficult for us for find but that was only because we didn't have a map with us and because the grid system is so confusing at first. We were walking up and down for about 20 minutes until we eventually came across it at practically ...

We had to queue outside for about half an hour, which wasn't too bad as I have heard that sometimes you can have a wait of about an hour and a half! Tickets cost about $20 (I can't remember the exact amount as my boyfriend paid) to take us up to the 86th floor. The lift zoomed up and took only a few seconds and then we stepped out onto the Observatory.
We were lucky that on the day we decided to go, there were very clear skies and there was a sign saying ...
