Advantages: A thoroughly great night out Disadvantages: Depends on your taste in music
MaddyPrior has the most beautiful voice. She used to be lead singer with Steeleye Span in the 70’s and I always loved their music – remember the hit All Around My Hat?
I saw Steeleye Span perform live at the open air concert at Cardiff Castle where 10CC were topping the bill. It had rained all afternoon and we were all soaked but as MaddyPrior took the stage the rain stopped! I didn't really know her at that time but the music was brilliant and her voice was so clear.
Well, now she sings with The Carnival Band, a group of 5 musicians who can play an amazing number of instruments. As you take your seats for the performance the stage is littered with guitars, fiddles, drums of all sorts, bagpipes (Irish and Flemish), oboe and many instruments I’d never even heard of!
Dave's boss had suggested that he went to ...
Advantages: Fast Paced, Several Suspects Disadvantages: -
Tami Hoag has written many novels, but I have to say I have formed an attachment to the Sam Kovac and Nikki Liska detective crime series. Prior Bad Acts is a fast paced thriller involving the police department, Kovac and Liska, the advocate?s bench Chris Logan and Kenny Scott and the judge Carey Moore. The police partnership of Kovac and Liska can be traced back to Hoag?s previous books originally forming in her 1999 novel Ashes to Ashes. However despite the working relationship having developed over the novels, there is no romance to watch out for (yet) between these two cops.
Kovac is a fast thinking, fast moving police detective who likes to lead with his feet, thinking about the consequences later, whilst Liska is a petite female officer with blonde cropped hair and the ability to cut down a criminal verbally in minutes.
The pair ...
Advantages: Fabulous ending Disadvantages: Some of it is quite dull
Detective Lieutenant William Somerset is just six days off retiring when he becomes involved in the hunt for a serial killer. Aided by Detective David Mills, it soon becomes clear that the murders, although initially random, do have something in common - each of them is the representation of one of the seven deadly sins. Gluttony, for example, is represented by a man so overweight that he was unable to escape from his tormentor. Slowly, the two detectives begin to piece the evidence together, and Mills almost catches the serial killer, nick-named John Doe, at one point, only to narrowly escape with his life. Will they finally catch up with John Doe? Or is he destined to always be one step ahead?
Made in 1995 and directed by David Fincher, this film was much praised on release for being excellent in just about every way possible ...

Album Notes
As the singer for Steeleye Span, Maddy Prior became a hugely important figure in British folk rock, but on her own, she has largely removed rock from the equation, particularly on SEVEN FOR OLD ENGLAND. While the numeric portion of the title is slightly misleading, as there more than twice that many tunes featured here, this is undoubtedly the music of old England. Prior goes straight to her roots, delivering versions of traditional U.K. folk tunes that go back centuries. Presented in all-acoustic arrangements, the tunes bear a timeless appeal that's accentuated by Prior's delivery. She neither adds any awkward "updating" to her approach nor takes a self-consciously reverential approach. She simply treats the tunes as the rich evocations of basic human emotion that they are, which proves to be just the right road to take.
