James are one of my all time favourite groups and have spent many a happy hour singing along to them, In the car, shower and around the house.
***A little bit about the band***
James formed back in the 80's, admist the Indie scene. and soon had people captured by thier unique style of vocals and almost punk-like energy. After a rocky start the band managed to to pull themselves back to produce the album Seven in the 90's.
The band consists of Tim Booth (Vocals), Andy Diagram (Trumpet & Backing vocals), David Baynton Power (Drums & Percussion), James Glennie (Bass guitar), Saul Davies (Guitars, Violin, Backing vocals and Percussion), Mark Hunter (Keyboards), Larry Gott (Guitars).
***The Songs***
1. Born Of Frustration 2. Ring The Bells 3. Sound 4. Bring A Gun 5. Mother 6. Don't Wait That Long 7. Live A Love Of Life 8. Next Lover 9. Heavens 10. Protect Me 11. Seven 12. Protect Me (Live At KROQ) 13. Sound (Live At Warrington) 14. Heavens (Live At Warrington) 15. Don't Wait That Long (Live At Warrington)
***Lyrics*** Although this CD doesn't come with a complete set of lyrics, but it does have the lyrics for Ring The Bells, which are below:
Ring ring the bells Wake the town Everyone is sleeping Shout at the crowd Wake them up This angers deeper than sleep.
Got to keep awake to whats happening. I can't see a thing through my ambition, I no longer feel my God is watching over me Got to tell the world we've all been dreaming This is not the end, a new beginning I no longer feel my God is watching over me
Break break the code. Concentrate. Let the doors swing open See through all your walls All your floors Now you're in deeper than sleep.
Got to keep awake to whats happening. I can't see a thing through my ambition, I no longer feel my God is watching over me Got to tell the world we've all been dreaming This is not the end, a new beginning I no longer feel my God is watching over me
When you let me fall grew my own wings Now I'm as tall as the sky When you let me down Grew gill and fins Now I'm as deep as the sea When you let me die My spirits free There's nothing challenging me.
These lyrics like most that james sing, seem to me to refer to a young boy who's life was shattered by the cruel realitys that life have to throw at us.Then reassure you that you can cope with anything. It certainly hit a note with me, being made homeless by my own mother at sixteen.
This album was compiled in 2001 by Mercury Records Ltd for Fontana.
***Conclusion***
James, although they may not be desirable by a lot of people have inspired me greatly. Being unique in style and hitting high notes like no other Indie group could. Singing about problems that a lot of teenagers at the time were experiencing, especially those who were using drugs to hide from the realitys of life (much like myself at the time). Many of my friends find it depressing music, but if listened to properly they are actually uplifting and high spirited. I would recommend this and other albums by James to anybody, any age from any walk of life.

Could really do with more about the songs and band and less of the list although what you do have to say is good particularly in your opening paragraphs. James's style of music always appealed to me although they are a little mainstream compared to my usual tastes.

Nice review, would have been nice to see a few breakdowns of the songs, and your opinions on them. Maybe a little bit on the mood of the songs.
