Johnny Rotten, guitarist Steve Jones, drummer Paul Cook and bassist Glen Matlock (replaced by Sid Vicious). Although their initial career lasted only three years and produced only four singles and one studio album, they are widely credited with initiating the punk movement in the UK. They are perhaps best known for their song "God Save the Queen" which was released in 1977 and was regarded by some as an attack on the British monarchy and British nationalism.

movement in the UK and creating the first generation gap within rock and roll. The individuals of the Sex Pistols are as big as the band itself! Their initial career only lasted 3 years, producing just 4 singles and one album. However, they have staged various come backs over the years and are still in existence today, having completed their latest tour in 2008. This is a must for any Sex Pistols fan.

1. The SexPistols were NOT the first Punk Band.
I cite Blondie, The Ramones (the Ramones were, i believe, even calling themselves "Punks" by 1975) et al, who were playing CBGB's and the Whisky-A-Go-Go in New York in the mid-70's, and before them a direct line can be drawn back to Iggy Pop and The Velvet Underground.
It was when Malcolm McClaren saw these bands, and especially the New York Dolls (who i have always thought are a load of rubbish, but there you go), that he got the idea of bringing this feeling/concept/irreverance to England.
2. The SexPistols were not the first Punk band in the U.K. to release a record. The Damned...

A big bassy and drum dominated backing track compliments Rotten's snarling sneering lyrics to the max. The lyrics smack (no pun intended) of someone who's perpetually high on drugs and has a permanent glazed 'the lights are on but there's no one at home' expression on their face.
"There's no point in asking you'll get no reply.
Oh just remember I don't decide.
I got no reason, it's all too much.
You'll always find us out to lunch"
What really gets me about this song though, is the chorus. If you bear in mind that Frankie Goes To Hollywood's 'Relax' was banned some 7 years later in 1984 by Radio 1, because they refused to omit the word come from the lyrics, the SexPistols definitely had the last laugh with this one. The words to the chorus are as follows;
"Oh we're so pretty.
Oh so pretty.
We're vacant"
They seem innocent...
