... That is why, this album, Sgt.Pepper, was to me, their last album as a 'group.'.
1967 was a year not just when the most diverse album was released but also the 'Summer of Love.' I doubt there are many readers out there reading this who remember it first hand, but as a general guide, it was ... Read review

changed in 1967, though, when John, Paul, George and Ringo (with "A Little Help" from their friend, producer George Martin) created an undeniable work of art which remains, after 3-plus decades, one of the most influential albums of all time. From Lennon's evocative word/sound pictures (the trippy "Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds", the carnival-like "Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite") and McCartney's music hall-styled "When I'm 64", to Harrison's Eastern-leaning "Within You Without You", and the avant-garde mini-suite, "A Day in the Life", Sgt. Pepper's was a milestone for both 1960s music and popular culture in general. --Billy Altman

...imaginations to play with.
Sgt. Pepper was accused by the media and the stiff previous generations of middle classes for inciting young people to experiment with hallucigenic substances. The media hurled themselves down upon the band, tossing insults at their creative lyrics and play on words within their songs.

...to be a band called Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. This gave the guys a lot of freedom while recording because, as Paul later said, "You could do anything when you got to the mike or on your guitar, because it wasn't you." Although only three songs on the album actually have anything to do with Sgt. Pepper and his band, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band is still rock & roll's first "concept album." Some of John's choices were Jesus, Ghandi, and Hitler, but they did not make the actual cover. Mae West almost did not appear on the cover, as she initially refused, saying, "What would I be doing in a lonely hearts club?" But she changed her mind and agreed to appear after the Beatles wrote her a personal ...

A must Have Album Review ofSgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band - Beatles (The)by
BLUESY
Advantages: The Beatles Disadvantages: None
...the following: 1. Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band (Lennon-McCartney):
It was Paul’s idea to make an album pretending to be a band different from the Beatles, the Lonely Hearts Club Band lead by Mr. Pepper. He had the idea during a flight, and once he reach earth, he called the other members of the band and told them to get into the studios again. The original idea was to make an album with one only track, I mean, different songs all joined ... ...messenger service’, etc. He wanted Sgt. Pepper to be Dr. Pepper, but there was a soft drink in America with that name. The song is fast, with good guitar riffs and with producer George Martin as an excellent orchestra conductor for the orchestra bits in the middle. The voices of McCartney, Lennon and Harrison singing together almost all the song are great, and the beginning is an example of how to play electric guitar.
'It's wonderful to be here, ...

Advantages: Some of the most innovative tracks ever recorded Disadvantages: Can be a little 'naff' in places
...at all...
Track 1: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band (2.02)
Starting us off is the albums title track. This song brings back fond memories of the Live 8 event a few years ago, as Paul McCartney bursts in song. This is really a good opener - gritty yet refreshing guitars and crowd like sound effects give this track a very 'real' effect.
Marks out of 10: 8.5 - some of the lyrics in the second verse could be seen as a little corny. All in good ... ...the most memorable tracks on Sgt. Pepper's.
Track 8: Within You Without You (5.05)
Handing the mic over to George Harrison, Within You Without You had absolutely no input from any of the other band members but instead with a group of Indian musicians. This song changes the pace of the album quite dramatically, the sound actually being quite relaxing.
Marks out of 10: 7.5 - my only one reservation with this track is that perhaps it drones on for ...
