...Well, what can I say about this album from DJ Shadow - firstly, if you do not own it go and buy it right now! This is a superbly crafted album from the talented DJ Shadow and cannot afford to be missed. The album contains a blend of lyrical and instrumental tracks, all mixed from original material dug off the shelves by DJ Shadow himself. This album takes you deep into the mind of the DJ and really should be listened to in its entirety to fully appreciate its grandeur. If I was to pisck a favourite track, however, it would be the second, which takes the theme from 'The Exorcist' and transforms it into a moving and enchanting tune which always leaves me feeling chilled and untroubled - yes I know it sounds weird but this is what this kind of music does to you! ...The way that DJ Shadow has pulled apart his record collection to build this masterpiece astounds me. The bloke is a genius, I have already written a review on his blinding debut Endtroducing, but this is something else. Working with James Lavelle of Mo Wax fame Shadow has been given the chance to develop some of the most sublime sampled music I have ever heard. Films, hip hop, rock, punk, electro, yes its eclectic, there's that word again the one that everyone uses to describe their album. But not many modern artists can claim to have a truly eclectic album, DJ Shadow however has picked elements from everywhere. And Lavelle's connections have offered him the chance to work with Richard Ashcroft, Thom Yorke, Mike D, Jason Newstead amongst others.
