On 1st May 1939 in Seattle, Washington, Judy Collins was born. In the 60's Judy Collins was one of the most talked about and Interpretive Folksingers.Judy first started off playing the clissical piano but at the age of 15 she turned to her dream of becoming a folksinger and released her very 1st album in 1962 at the age 22. This Album was called A Maid Of Constant Sorrow.
In 1966 Judy's musical career really took off. Releasing her next album In My Life was a great memory for Judy as this was her 6th Album that went to Gold
Some of her best known performances were the cover's of "Amazing Grace", the all time favorite Gospel and the Broadway Ballad "Send in the Clowns," along with some songs of her very own such as "My Father" and "Born to the Breed." In 1993 Judy moved to Geffen to release of Judy Sings Dylan...Just Like a Woman soon after this was released Shameless followed in 1994 on Atlantic.

To be honest I was never really a great fan of Folk music but I have to admit that this CD is absolutly fantastic. I have got to be honest and say the it is one of the best Folk Music Collection CD's that I have ever experienced listening to.Judy has such a beautiful and Powerful voice across at lest four octaves.But trhough out she has absolute control over the power her voice give's. She sets the tone quality and the volume of her voice very evenly so when it comes to those really high notes of those really low notes the sound quality is very relaxed. As for the back-up, it is outstanding. All the skill's and sound effects and echoes that are set in the songs really do set the songs off with Judys great voice.
"Risk." in my opinion is a brilliant song that anyone could relate to as the word are so meaningful and will touch everyone in a special way. This song will have you feeling very relaxed and have you drift away to somewhere where you have no worries or troubles where as the words to the song itself will have you much more dertrmined to furfill that all important dream you have always wanted to pursue.
"Wind, Water, Fire and Stone." is another faniastic peice of music. With the water splashing against the rock and the bell's chiming to the lead up of the vocal part of the song.The Oboe is used to create that spectacular wind blowing sound and to create an even better effect birds are joined to give that real relaxing feeling of the outdoors.As the end of the song draws ner Judy holds her voice amazingly as the song fades away and the roar of the thunder and the chimes that lead to the strong hard heavy rainstorm.
"Lily of the Valley," is a song/story about a wife thet get's hung for the murder of her abusive husband.This will touch the hearts and soul of each and every listener, great song very sad
"Mountain Girl" This is a real mover. It begins with a quick piano tempo. It will definatley have you tapping your feet if not up and dancing and singing around the room
My Opinion ************
I would say that this is a very calm and relaxing collection to have. A collection you can listen to and really relate to in some way's. It makes you feel as though you are actually in the song (if that kames sence lol) I cant help but to sing along with Judy or humm the tunes in my head
I would definatley recommend this CD to any Folk music lover. It is a must have musical colleciton. Everyone who listens to it will be inspired and touched. It has everything from Judy's solo voice to a magnificent full-band.
