The album is a great cocktail of angst, energetic and rip curling rock tunes, "Showbiz", "Fillip" and "Uno" whilst at the same time "i hate this and i'll love you" shows the mornful and genuis side of Bellamy's song writing, guitar playing and voxing vocals.

to Muse's debut, it's easy to see why.Showbizwas produced by John Leckie, the producer ofThe Bends, and features the frightfully Yorke-esque choiral falsetto of front-man Matthew Bellamy, running the whole emotional gamut of unhappiness from sincere upset to outright dysfunction. New ground, it's fair to say, remains distinctly unbroken. To Muse's credit, though, they do this angst thing pretty well. "Cave" is a wonderful, terrible epic, replete with rank after rank of bludgeoning guitars, "Muscle Museum" builds up swathes of complex baroque noise, and "Escape"--well, it's a surrogate "No Surprises" with a firework finale, and should keep us ticking over until the next Radiohead album, thank you very much. See? You can't escape the comparison. But at leastShowbizwears it well.--Louis Pattison

Advantages: a piece of perfect rock- amazing debut Disadvantages: People compare them to Radiohead - no need
The debut for the Devonish trio was released in 1999 and could be classed as one of the best debuts by a band in years.
It fuses experimental rock with screaming and painful vocals.
If this was review was written around the time of the release, I'd say what for them, their gonna be huge - since they've already headline Glasto and broke the states, I can't really write that.

Advantages: Incredible songwriting, guitar riffs and vocals. Disadvantages: If you don't like Muse's style theres probably nothing at all here for you.
...Songs like muscle museum and showbiz are absolutly amazing and remain favourites of mine despite my general change in tastes in music. Further albums by Muse have continued what this album started and they have also become a hit group on tour. Their style of music isn't neccessarily everyones taste, but from my experience it seems to be to the tastes of more people than not. I cannot recommend this or the other muse albums more, 10/10. ...

Advantages: Good debut album Disadvantages: The Radiohead comparrison that followed on after it's release
So although I have an impending op on the Sugababes over my head I decided I couldn?t be bothered to do it tonight and that I would leave it and do this Muse one instead. This is the debut album Showbiz released in 1999 onto an unsuspecting market and almost straight away the tag ?The New Radiohead? was attached to the band. However Bellamy, Howard and Wolstenholme weren?t going to let that put them off.
In fact they were going to become a band on a par with Radiohead, but at the same time sounding nothing like them. The music press always branding the next.... title around kept on with these comparisons, however when I actually got the album it was time to decide were they like Radiohead or were they something different.
The album opens with ?Sunburn? one of my favourite Muse tracks on this album. It opens with a piano on it?s own ...

Advantages: Most of the tracks are brilliant, e.g. MM, Cave, Sunburn, Unintended; the solid band effort Disadvantages: Some tracks are too average, Matt's voice can grate sometimes
Showbiz was the debut album by the band Muse. This album is very different from the rest of the Muse albums, for example the experimentational nature of "Origin of Symmetry" to the apocalyptic & spacey themes of "Absolution" & "Black Holes & Revelations". It also has a very raw, rocky feel to it, some people comparing them to Radiohead. But as my friend put it when I made him to listen to some Radiohead after listening to Showbiz, he just couldn't listen to Radiohead properly as he thought Muse were better at it than them. I know people may disagree...but it shows Muse were and still are an incredibly talented band, and hopefully may travel further upwards and outwards in the future.
Onto the album anyway:
- Sunburn is a track about the allure of wealth and happiness, with the context of a girl and temptation. This song is mainly ...

Advantages: the highly emotional tone throughout the album Disadvantages: perhaps requires a little too much attention at times
Showbiz can be described as nothing less than fantastic, especially considering that it's the debut album from Muse. But, as many people are probably thinking in and amongst all this hype, what makes it so special? The style of the album has been compared to that of Radiohead on many occasion, which is nothing but a compliment, but is rather unfounded in my opinion. Muse do something different with their music than Thom Yorke and his boys. The idea is the same, rock music with intricate melodies and harmonies, all topped off with a fantastic voice, but Muse somehow do this in a totally different way and round it off with their own special touch.
The tracks on the album are very varied, demonstrating the ability of the band to put thought into each track and play in different styles. Obvious tracks to point out include the opening ...
