SIGNS OF LIFE was nominated for a 1997 Grammy Award for Best Pop/Contemporary Gospel Album. Christian Rock sensation Steven Curtis Chapman has a very personal take on the Good News. Combining bible-oriented messages with a burly rock and roll sound, the 12 songs on SIGNS OF LIFE present the fully-realized chronicle of a Christian struggling to reconcile his beliefs with the trials and tribulations of the postmodern world. Toward this end, Chapman calls upon his knack for forceful, bluesy melodies and in-your-face arrangements bristling with bright keyboards and thick guitars. Top-shelf musicians including bassist Leland Sklar and keyboardist Shane Keister provide a solid accompaniment for multi-instrumentalist Chapman, who seems to be proficient on anything with strings. Chapman's lyrics eschew happy-face gospel cliches in favor of a more balanced approach that emphasizes the conflicts and difficulties inherent in keeping a faith as strong as his. Songs like "Let Us Pray" and "Hold On To Jesus" exemplify this mature, realistic approach. Chapman made SIGNS OF LIFE with one ear on the Sunday sermon and one on contemporary pop radio, and it's one of the rare Christian albums to have broken into the Billboard top 20.
Advantages: Good graphics, nice interactive game Disadvantages: long periods when you don't actually play the game
...LifeSigns - Hospital Affairs seemed an intriguing title to me and was what first led me to pick up this game. Upon reading the back of the box I learnt that this game sees you become the lead character of the game, an ambitiousyong doctor. You would handle emergencies, perform sugery, deal with dramas involving patients and colleagues.... This is exactly the type of game that appeals to me, so was a definite purchase for me.
Upon playing, I did get a bit frustrated by the longwinded storyline. You find yourself constantly hitting the next button, and there are page after page of stories. In fairness, this does set the scene well for what follows, and the graphics are excellent, but this is frustrating when you want to get on and do something. Once you actually do get to play, you walk around the hospital and talk to people (chosing...

...of an olympic athlete and the kids baby monitor tuning into a strange frequency where weird noises can be heard. Graham at first refuses to believe anything is going on and scalds his kids and brother Merrill who seem to be swept along with the 'goings-on' as seemingly does the whole town but gradually he realises through the 'Signs' that something is at work, something is going to happen, something is coming !!
The thing that this film does particulary well is that it homes in on this family and this family alone thus creating a great relationship between audience and characters. Graham is a man suffering at the recent loss of his wife, killed in a road accident, we see his grief, we see his doubts and we see his broken heart. A particulary touching scene is when he is asked by his young daughter why he speaks to his late wife and her mother...

Advantages: Consistently great production; A handful of fun material Disadvantages: Uninspired; uncreative; weaker hooks than previous albums; boring
...to say the least, but his ability to write catchy hooks and ride his charisma to the top of the charts. But what happens when his ability to write fire hooks over fire production has even diminished?
That's when you get Curtis.
Don't let the album cover art and semi-self titled album name fool you,Curtis isn't one of those autobiographical, introspective, self-portrait albums. Nope, it's typical 50 with about half the charisma, the same rapping skills, and an utter lack of true bangers.
I'd be a liar if I said I didn't have a soft spot for "In Da Club", "Candy Shop", "21 Questions", "Disco Inferno", and other 50 Cent club/love singles. I like them; they are good songs. Are they going to revolutionize the industry in terms of creativity? Of course not; but there's a reason why they were so popular. The three big singles on Curtis to me...
