For a few months i've really been getting into indie music. I started off with the now tame Keane and Snow Patrol and then moved on the the more exciting stuff. I bought this album a couple of months ago and it sat on the shelf for a couple of weeks.
I then picked it up and began to listen to it. I heard "like eating glass" and really got into the song when it picked up in pace. I played it throught and realised that this was an awesome album. The music is sort of a pumped up "the killers." It breaks the boundaries previously set by other bands in the genre who always seem to have a selection of slower songs on their albums. Bloc Party have a couple of songs that start with a slow beat but then pick up. Every song on the album is of good enough quality in my opinion to be realeased as a single.
The members of the band are: Kele Okereke on vocals and guitar, Gordon Moakes on bass, Russel Lissack on guitar and Matt Tong. Each member of the band compliments each other with their styles of music.
I will tell you about some of my favorite songs on the album:
We start off with "Like Eating Glass", which for the first 40 seconds has a slow tempo. It picks up and deveops into a more high tempo song, giving listeners a sort of warm up for the album really. I must say the songs on hte album sound a lot better when you turn the volume right up.
"Helicopter" is probably my favourite song on the ablum. Some excellent guitar work really brings some atmosphere to the song. It really represents what the group is all about. Its a song that you can really et into. I think this may be the next song to be realeased from the album.
"Postive Tension" begins with an excellent base performance mixed with a bit of synth. This blend of synth and guitar is featured throughout the album and represents the hard work that the band has put in tp make sure the songs are of top quality.
"Banquet" begins with a beating drum that creates a real sense of atmosephere. The guitar work really is excellent throughout this song. The voice of Kele Okereke really works well with the guitar work by Russell Lissack.
"Blue Light" is the closest thing that comes to a slow song on the album. The first minute and a half are of a slower tempo but is still excellent because of the work on guitar and on the drums which also help to pick up the tempo of the in the second half.
"Pioneers" is one of the very atmospheric songs on the album. Light work on the guitar helps to create this. Again the vocals by Kele really do complement the guitar work.
I really do recommend that you buy this ablum. This band, who are already massive in America, will surely break Britain if people get a chance to sample the delights found on this outstanding album.

Advantages: It's an excellent album, totally different to everything else. Contains one of the best song's I've heard in years Disadvantages: A few tracks take their time to grow. Instantly compared to bands like Franz Ferdinand and The Killers, without being judged on its own merit
Advantages: Lyrically and vocally compelling.Sounds bit like Joy Division, Sonic Youth, The Cure and such like Disadvantages: The vocals can sometimes bit a bit shouty and musically they aren't that impressive or different.
