Silk Torpedo - Pretty Things (The)

Advantages: Exeptional quality of every piece of sound

..."Hornet" is perhaps the most popular here. It had been shaking dancefloors for quite a long time. Not too much effects here, but combination of heavy bass and straightforward beat create all the action. The next one, "Wednesday" features beautiful female vocals and nice guitar samples. Generally, it is a very moody track with a soft beat. Nevertheless, it is pretty rhythm is pretty fast and fluent and the track is groovy. "Dogsploitation" is made in a very dark spirit and is a fine example of the variety of styles Bad Company can succesfully work in. "Torpedo" sounds heavily anthemic. Bassline here is the strongest on the album and combined with jump-up beats creates a whole thriller. But the next one, "Dr. Shevago" is another experiment. It is pretty soft and moody again, with fine latin samples make it sound funny indeed. Yet the beat here... Read review

Advantages: great if you like black american soul / r&b ( the boys II men sound)

...This group are really better known for the track "freak me" but the tracks on this album are all pretty good. Although there is nothing that really stands out musically, its an accomplished and polished style that I personally quite like. I bought it for the track "freak me" which hit the UK charts way back then. Typically for me I guess - but I loved the whole Boys II Men sound and these Silk boys seemed to be a bit 'edgier' - The line " let me lick you up and down" did it for me as a 21 year old clubber! Their sound is similar to other soul type boy bands ballads and up tempo mix - BUT - it just seems a little funkier, grittier maybe? If youve heard freak me - that generally is the style of the remainder of the album. You'll probably enjoy this album more though if you're keen on other groups like the afore mentioned B II M... ...Manu chao made me to wait long to release of this La Radiolina. As i found out part of the old band Radio Bemba Sound SYstem is still together and their tourney is inside this album. Rock guitars serves Madjid Fahem, bass guitar Michael Bambit using his berserk voice same energically as on his concerts. Magic word i've seen on their web pages really fits and very briefly characterises what hes able to do with strings. Next well known is charismatic trumpeter Roy Paci. Texts are very protesting - i can mention one part to make your own view - it is from Politik Kills: "Politik use drugs / Politik use bombs / Politik need torpedoes / Politik needs blood / That's why my friend is an evidence / Politik is violence". The music is going well and everything fits together but sometimes was a little bit boring that they copy from themselves so... Read review
