**Introduction**
I'm sure all of you have at least one cd in your collection from an artist you really only like that album from them. One such band that I feel this way about Is Nickelback. Although I do like some of their other stuff there is not enough consistency on any of their other albums for me to buy any other Nickelback albums.
Nickelback
Chad Kroeger - vocals, rhythm guitar, production Ryan Peake -lead guitar, backing vocals, production Mike Kroeger - bass, production Ryan Vikadel - drums, production
**Silver Side Up.
They released their third studio album Silver Side Up on that fateful day 11th September 2001. This album is wrongly given as their debut because of the success of the album compared to their previous two albums which performed badly. Chad Kroeger wrote the lyrics and the whole band wrote the music for the album which was produced in British Columbia.
1.) Never Again
This is a great track to start off with, This has a dirty rock feel with crunching guitar melodies and heavy drumming. I really like the lyrics which are about an abusive relationship of a female friend who is being beaten by her partner. They are warning the guy to stop doing it and for the woman to get out of the relationship. A brilliant start.
2.) How You Remind Me
This is the track that made Nickelback, I remember when this single was released it was on all the music stations and on the radio. This is catchy melodic rock performed well. I must admit that it kind of got on my nerves a little due to the constant airplay it received but now nearly eight years on I can appreciate it for what it is, A very good song.
3.) Woke up this morning
This is one of the more uptempo tracks on the album and is a real triumph. This is catchy metal rock at it's best. This has a great flow and has a great chorus that is a massive crowd pleaser at their live concerts. I love some of the guitar melodies on this track. Really good stuff.
4.) Too Bad
This starts off gently with Chad's vocals tinged with effects and then the drums come in. This track then develops into a really catchy mid-tempo rock track which has some great guitar licks and drum tempo changes. This is one of the best flowing tracks on Silver Side Up. It features some great guitar work from Chad towards the end of the track.
5.) Just For
This is a fast paced track which has some great melodies and tempo changes. It follows the same kind of feel as the opening Never Again but this is more of a threat to any man who tries it on with his Partner and not about a friend and her partner. A very flowing track that has some great guitar melodies.
6.) Hollywood
This continues the great melodies that feature on the album. The guitar melodies on this track are really dirty and have a great raspy quality as do Chad's vocals on this track. This is one of the best of their more metal sounding tracks. some great guitar licks on here too.
7.) Money Bought
This also has a great metal feel and although not quite as catchy as the previous track it is still a very good track that continues the same qualities that the previous tracks have in terms of guitar melodies and drumming. Not quite the best on here but a decent track nonetheless.
8.) Where Do I Hide
The opening guitar melody of this track is superb and dirty and the drums come in and the song starts to flow brilliantly. This is one of the catchiest metal tracks I have heard from this decade and the guitar melodies are superb showing that they have talent. The guitar solo is superb and the music leading up to it isn't bad at all.
9.) Hangnail
This, the penultimate track on the album continues the catchy riffs of much of the album so far. This is another very flowing track which has some great melodies and the vocals are again very strong. This is a very good track that continues the quality of the album.
10.) Good Times Gone
Here's the final track on Silver Side Up. It has a gentle guitar intro then the drums come in. This has a bluesy feel like southern rock. This is a great end to the album and another very good track.
**Overall**
This is a very strong album that leaves me thinking what happened with them as they really have not come out with anything as consistent as this. This album shows they have the talent to make great music but for some reason their other stuff just doesn't work. I would rate Silver side up as one of the best albums of 2001.
