First off I have to say, the album name… Well, I do prefer the names of the first two albums, No Pads, No Helmets…Just Balls and Still Not Getting. So to release the third album for their eagerly awaiting fans and ... ...was shocked to learn that Simple Plan were going Mainstream, they want success (and they deserve it) but just what exactly would these guys do to get that success? In the words of Kerrang "Release a sugary radio friendly CD". Well…I disagree with Kerrang, especially since I'm bouncing in my seat as I write this! (I'm listening to the CD as i write)
RIGHT! LETS DO THIS! *Track One* AH HA! The new single, WHEN I'M GONE. This has got to be, pure Simple ...

Advantages: Some super catchy, hugely fun Pop Punk tracks. Disadvantages: A couple of tracks fail to deliver.
Simple Plan formed in Montreal, Canada back in 1999. To date they have released three studio albums including this latest self titled offering. Both of their first two albums have gone quadruple platinum in their homeland of Canada. I would not generally be in at all a rush to listen to Simple Plan when a new album is released, but with their 2008 self titled album I had been looking forward to listening to it for quite some time now. Since first ... ...great change in sound that Simple Plan as a band have incurred. Their music has always been Pop Punk, however before there was always a heavy emphasis on the 'Pop' and not so much on the 'Punk'. Whilst 'When I'm Gone' is admittedly still quite bouncy, the band are definitely taking a more mature and serious approach with the track and I feel that this actually benefits them greatly. It is now far easier to see them as a 'real' band, rather than being ...

...3rd release from Canadian 5-piece, Simple Plan. As with Still Not Getting Any this album is a little bit different to previous albums. Not that that's a bad thing!
What may put people off about this album is the opening bar of When I'm Gone. While it may seem the band have gone in a 'techno' direction, it would be wrong to assume the rest of the album follows suit. Being the band's first single from the album, this song has great lyrics and a catchy ... ...it'll be stuck on repeat!
Simple Plan are not losing their trademark sound with songs such as Time To Say Goodbye, reminiscent of Thank You on their previous album while still managing to sound fresh. This album closes with What If, with a solid backing track and interesting lyrics, this song is one to think about. Take My Hand has a terrific riff to it that you can never tire of. It's exciting and memorable. The lyrics are great too, but I wouldn't ...

Album Notes: For their third album, in an admirable spirit of experimentation, Simple Plan added some new sounds to their usual pop/punk template, by calling on the professional services of beat-doctor Danjahandz and pop producer Max Martin (Britney/Kelley Clarkson). The French-Canadian punks haven't abandoned their old sound altogether, but the new, danceable grooves enrich their repertoire and may just garner them some new fans in the process.
Album Reviews: Kerrang (Magazine) (p.46) - "[S]till poppy, still punky, but with shinier hooks, explosive beats and sonics, and great big grins on their faces."
