The years from about 1950 to 1970 were the golden age of twang. Country music's giants all ... more
strode the earth in those years: Hank Williams and Johnny Cash, George Jones and Merle Haggard, Loretta Lynn and Tammy Wynette. This book pushes past the iconic voices and images to get at what classic country music truly means to us.
Advantages: Westlife, great songs and voices Disadvantages: A few week links and very ballard orientated
This is another great album from the 4 Irish men. It is titled BackHome.
There are 12 tracks on this CD:-
1 - Home - This is a beautiful ballard from the group which you will have probably have heard on the radio or advertised on the TV when the adverts for this album appears. It has a lovely tune and is very easy listening.
2 - Us against the world - This is another ballard but has a different edge to it from their usual ballards. The tune is very catchy and the song has great words. More upbeat than some of the songhs on the album. There is a very catchy chorus which is very easy to pick up so you will soon be singing along!
3 - Something right - This song has a lovely tune which makes easy listening. The words are very nice but this is not one of my favourite songs. There is a very upbeat feel to this song which does make ...
Advantages: 12 great songs, brilliant lyrics, the music is really good Disadvantages: not enough of Kian and Nicky singing on their own
I purchased this wonderful album by westlife today. Its release date in Ireland is today the 2nd of November and in the UK it is the 5th of November. It is the 9th studio album from the lads and if there is any justice it will be at number one.
With the exception of the cover version of Michael Buble's "Home" the rest of the album is all new and original music. This album holds a mixture of ballads and up tempo songs. It takes us back to the start of Westlife.
The Album:
1) Home - Brilliant version of the Michael Buble classic. The mixture of Harmonies between Mark and Shane is unbelievable. The emotion they show in this song is unreal and brings a tear to your eye when you are away from home and you really want to go back.
2) Us Against the World starts of with Nicky singing "Us Against the World" over and over again but it ...
Advantages: Superb lyrics and vocals Disadvantages: None for me
I became a fan of Westlife when they were formed in 1998. Ten years on I would still class myself as a fan of theirs. The simple reason for this is because their music is so easy to listen to and I can't honestly say that there is one song that they have produced that I have hated. I will admit that there have been a couple that I'm not as fond of but there isn't any that I physically can't listen to.
Now I know that the Westlife boys aren't exactly everyone's cup of tea and that their remakes of classic songs and on stage 'moves' don't always make them popular but this factor doesn't bother me in the slightest, as the boys themselves can actually sing, not only singly but also as a harmonised unit and it is this I think that should be focused on more than it often is.
Westlife is an pop band that initially had five members Shane ...

Album Notes
Personnel: Merle Haggard (vocals, guitar); William "Billy" Mize (guitar, background vocals); Glen Campbell, Roy Nichols, Lewis Talley (guitar); Norman Hamlet (pedal steel guitar); George French, Jr. (piano); Leon Copeland, Howard Lowe (bass); Roy Burris (drums); Bonnie Owens (background vocals). Producers: Ken Nelson, Charles "Fuzzy" Owen. Reissue producer: Jim Beavers. Recorded at Capitol Recording Studios, Los Angeles, California in 1967. Includes original liner notes by Will Bellow. Digitally remastered by Mark Chalecki (Capitol Mastering). This is part of Capitol's Cornerstone series. Merle Haggard's hits have been anthologized many times by many different record companies, but for many years his actual albums, as they were originally released, were unavailable. This situation was rectified in the '90s with the re-release of a number of Haggard's early Capitol albums, among them 1968's SING ME BACK HOME. Until the late '80s, the country music industry was entirely oriented toward singles, and many artists exerted minimal effort to release quality albums. Haggard has always been the exception to that rule. Perhaps because he is a gifted and prolific songwriter, Haggard has always been able to flesh out his albums with top-quality material. Among the non-single tracks on SING ME BACK HOME are such great originals as "Wine Take Me Away," "I'll Leave The Bottle On The Bar," and "Look Over Me." Haggard has never denied his debt to earlier country greats, and here he tips his hat to one of his favorites, Lefty Frizzell, with a fine cover version of "Mom And Dad Waltz." Thanks to Koch, fans unable to afford Bear Family's expensive UNTAMED HAWK box set can now enjoy all of Merle Haggard's great early recordings.
Album Reviews
Q (4/02, p.130) - 3 out of 5 stars - "...Perhaps the most moving piece of music he ever made..." Mojo (7/02, p.120) - "...Not a bad track in the bunch - tough-talkin' ballads and a whole lot of men-behind-bars songs...with a fuller production than his earlier albums..."
