Review of Essential Ella - Ella Fitzgerald by red-head

Advantages: Beautiful Lady with a Beautiful Voice
Disadvantages: None

...I found this CD a couple of years ago in my mum's collection when I was looking for something to listen to as I was bored. I was pleasently suprised when I discovered it had lots of pieces that I already knew. I have been brought up surrounded by classical, jazz, blues etc as my parents are fanatics and to be honest I prefer classic singers to modern music (which is quite unusual for a 20 year old!). She was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 25th, 1917 and died on June 15th, 1996. In her lifetime, Ella won 13 Grammy awards and also sold over 40 million album, working with Jazz ledgends such as Duke Ellington, Count Basie and Nat King Cole. She was born in Newport News, Virginia on April 25th, 1917 and died on June 15th, 1996. Ella Fitzgerald has a warm, romantic style of singing and sounds sooo relaxed when she's singing and you... They Speak Modal, Apparently.
Review of We Are The Octagonists - An Emergency by Furbystein

Advantages: Worth a listen if you like something different.
Disadvantages: Very short.

...Now this is a really obscure CD. What you get when you buy We Are Octagonists is some brilliant alternative/experimental music, but very independent and very raw. Although, tell the truth, it's lack of fine-tuning is what attracts me to it. The first track is called Terror! and it sets the mood for the album, very harsh, hard-hitting and unusual rock. This british band are somewhere between Biffy Clyro and Forward Russia, although not as refined. It's a good track, but better one follow. In the second track the vocals develop slightly more, it's called Irony Nein Danke. Why I liken these guys to Forward Russia is simply the singer's ability to jump around as much as the guitar. This is fast-paced, changeable indie with hints of all sorts of influences... Killer Bob is the third track, and it's another fast track, with some very cool... Read review

It's only rock and roll … but not as we know it!
Review of Leningrad Cowboys: Total Balalaika Show (double CD) by awooga

Advantages: Not only historic but dam good entertainment
Disadvantages: The mixed style may not suit all

..." (a band who are never seen without pointy shoes and even more pointy hair and who consider tractors the height of 'bling') perform with one of the worlds most magnificent choruses "The Red army Ensemble" the idea struck a chord and, surprisingly, gained momentum. Bearing in mind that Russia was an occupier of Finland until 1917, they were at war with Finland up to 1945 and still have one of the world's longest manned fenced borders between them, pulling this off was never going to be a simple task. Notwithstanding the difficulties, on the 12th of June 1993, only 4 years after the fall of the Berlin wall, 70,000 people crowded into the historic Senate Square in Helsinki and rocked the remains of the cold war out of Finland. Don't be fooled by this introduction though, this was no joke, no Finnish 'Spinal Tap', no fake Russian choir... Read review
