Advantages: Beautifully written, complex characters, thought provoking Disadvantages: Time consuming
at least once in your life. In my opinion it is one of the most beautiful of all books that I have read. Many say it is too long or too overdramatic, but I see it as complex and passionate. My only regret is that I can?t read it in it?s original Russian. However, many brilliant translations are available. My favourite in the Penguin Classics edition translated by Richard Pevear and Larissa Volokhonsky at the RRP of £8.99. The vibrancy of the language has led to the edition being described as the ?definitive translation.? So if you have already read Anna Karenina try reading it again, if not give it a go. I can?t guarantee that you will fall in love with it as I have but it is still a breathtaking book that deserves to be read by all.

Advantages: A masterpiece Disadvantages: A very long masterpiece
Leo Tolstoy's Anna Karenina is an incredibly popular story. Well known and loved by many it has survived the passage of time and is as beguiling and popular now as it has ever been.
I say story rather than novel as this has been the subject of many film and TV adaptations, from Greta Garbo in 1935 to Sophie Marceau in 1997 the IMDb website lists no less than 24 different adaptations, from all over the world.
How popular the novel itself is is questionable, weighing in at over 800 pages it is quite daunting but if you've only seen the films you really have missed out. The novel is a masterpiece of literature and covers characters and themes far beyond the reach of film.
I'll be honest and say that I've never seen any of these adaptations but from the synopsis' and commentaries I've read it seems that they focus almost entirely ...
Advantages: It's gorgeous, it'a alcoholic, it's a sweet, luxurious liqueur.. Disadvantages: Too expensive!
This has got to be my favourite drink in the world. And to use an American expression that I think rather fitting....Period. It's fantastic, I could rave on about it using all sorts of adjectives. but that's not going to get me a high rating, nor particularly inform you guys. :P
As described on the rather lovely packaging, this drink is 'uniquely dark and intriguing' and I've got to agree. Tia Maria is a dark rum and while it looks like it could be quite dry, it's got a deliciously sweet coffee/vanilla taste to it that is so moreish. Pour it into a glass and you'll see a thick, dark coloured, wonderful-smelling liquid come out. Put the glass to your lips and inhale the vanilla/coffee smell. Sip it slowly and taste the luxurious pleasure that is Tia Maria. I can't describe the taste, I wouldn't do it justice.
It's26.5% volume ...
