Additional notes

Album Notes: Originally released on the Diablo label in 1962, ROOSEVELT SYKES SINGS THE BLUES is a classic Sykes date. The set is full of romping boogies, slow-burn ballads, and straight ahead blues stomps; and features a loose but gutsy band backing Sykes on vocals and piano. Sykes's singing and playing are characteristically bright, and he manages to sound elegant and classy without ever losing his bluesy punch. The 2006 reissue boasts improved sound, and is a happy reminder of the pleasures of this luminous bluesman.

Review of Big Calm - Morcheeba by jennystevenson

Advantages: Lyrics, influences, everything
Disadvantages: None that I can spot

..., I feel like I'm floating again. Not content with trip-hop, Morcheeba add blues guitars and folk friendly violins to this one and a few subtle sound effects and bass in the background. 'PART OF THE PROCESS' makes me want to lie back in the sun and sing along. In England? If only. It conveys a message of longing for peace, although they express it better than I ever could; 'You smash they grab 'til it's gone, attempt to grow and fix undone. And I am the way it's all to scale, we're all companions on which we sail'. 'BLINDFOLD' is my personal favourite in its entire epic sounding proportions. The classic tale of love is blind I presume, with lines such as the chorus; 'I'm so glad to have you and it's getting worse. I'm so mad to love you and your evil curse'. Beautifully sung with a hint of jazz backed by a string section, the song... Read review

Blue - One Love
Review of One Love - Blue by a_james

Advantages: I like all the songs on this album, different songs, one of my favourite bands
Disadvantages: the black background on the cover that the picture was taken of blue

...This album is great, the songs are different from any of the other albums, I like the song that blue sing with Elton John, Blue and Elton John sing really well together and their singing is abosloutely great together. I like the song where simon sings really well as the main singer on the album, I like all the group singing in this album because these all sing really well. Lee and simon are really good singing in this album. There is a lot of variety of different music in this album. Blue are really good singers. I feel this is the best album that they ever made. I hope this review of Blue helps. I like all the songs on the album. Blue is one of my favourite bands.... Read review

Long Distance....driving?
Review of Long Distance (The Best Of Runrig) - Runrig by el_spencer

Advantages: No bad tracks you just want to skip
Disadvantages: Not to everyone's taste

...The album kicks off with the uplifting and a personal favourite of mine - Glory Road - and the standard is set for the rest of the CD. With strong instrumentals, soulful lyrics and a brilliant voice this is quite simply Runrig at its best. The live tracks are great - I love hearing people singing along to the chorus, especially Loch Lomond. The majority of the tracks are upbeat and easy on the ear; making it good to drive to. Before you know it you're tapping your foot and singing away! I would say Runrig is an acquired taste - it's a soft mix of rock and pop, soulful with a good drum beat to it. It isn't similar to anything I've come across in recent years and is always makes a refreshing change when I'm in the mood for something different. With classics such as The Greatest Flame and Hearthammer this this CD makes a great addition... Read review
