Advantages: Aussie folk, blues, country if you like that sorta thing Disadvantages: Don't play the UK enough
...I first heard the Waifs when they supported Billy Bragg on his UK tour. They are an excellent live band but their CDs are just as good, it's just a shame they don't get to tour here much (even less now there are baby waifs!). This was their debut album. They are difficult to categorise - folk, blues, country, Aussie accents but a clear American influence - they cite Bob Dylon as an early influence.
The band consists of two Australian fisherman's daughters who, in 1992 bought a campervan and headed off around Australia singing to fund their travelling. They met up with Josh, third member of the band and the rest is history! They are all great songwriters and many of their songs are inspired by their life on the road. Their grandfather was American and you can hear a bluesy American influence in their sound.
They all play guitars...

Advantages: Carrys on where last album left off Disadvantages: Similar sound tracks
...Having been a fan of The Gaslight anthem since the first album (Sink or Swim) I couldn't wait to get told of The '59 Sound. I can say that it doesn't disappoint and carries on from where the previous album left off. The familiar sound is there and Brian Fallon distinctive vocals are as good as ever.
My only minor critism, which maybe effect the longevity of this in my CD player, is that it can become quite samey. This isn't a bad thing if you love the band tho!
If you've not heard the band before, I'd say it's for fans of Hot Water Music, The Draft, bands of that sound, although not quite as heavy.
All I can hope is that they come to the UK soon to tour, I've not been aware of any gigs up till now, but it would be interesting to see how the songs sound live!...

Advantages: Great Hardcore tunes Disadvantages: Too short
...Following on from their previous release Rusty Medals and Broken Badges, in 2003 Over my Dead Body released there second full album Sink or Swim.
OMDB are:
Daniel Saint - Vocals
Mike Arney - Guitar
Aaron Cooley - Guitar
Adam Meehan - Bass
Tommy Anthony - Drums
Over My Dead Body formed in 2000, from San Diego, California, their sound is an old school hardcore punk style that plays what they like and are arguable one of the best hardcore bands of the 21st century.
There lyrics cover straight edge, politics, the hardcore scene, oh and a bit of football as well. The album Sink or Swim has a mix of old school hardcore, punk and metal.
'Why are you here' (1.29) starts off the album, no big build up instrumental or anything straight into the lyrics "It makes me sick/ It's reduced to this/ where is the though and passion?/ You've got...
