Sixpence None The Richer's "Kiss Me" was released in the UK last summer and it's the kind of beautiful, floaty, hazy, romantic track that will always trigger memories of the times you first heard it. It was a very strong summer song and did well in the charts, as well as appearing on the soundtrack of the movie "She's All That" that summer and, later, "Dawson's Creek". The only downside is that SNTR never really followed it up, and in the UK at least they were something of a one-hit wonder. Still, "Kiss Me" is the kind of song any band would want to be remembered for.
...Sixpence None The Richer make music that is an example of pure rhythm and melody, mixed with dancey, jazzed up, summery lyrics.
I myself am looking forward to their next release which will undoubtedly be just as good , fun and original as the last. Highly recommended!!!!!!!!! ...

Review of Sixpence None The Richer - Sixpence None The Richer
Advantages: Everything, it's just such a wonderful song Disadvantages: Only that it may be the first and last
This beautiful song is a fantastic example of a summer track that you'll never forget. It was featured on the soundtrack of the film She's All That, and also, more prominenty, on Dawson's Creek. It's the kind of song that brightens up your mood and you are always happy to hear it on the radio. It makes the memories of those long, romantic summer nights come flooding back, and brings a smile to your face or a ter to your eye, depending on the nature ...

Review of Sixpence None The Richer - Sixpence None The Richer
Advantages: great listening for almost all occasions Disadvantages:
I didn't really think of buying this CD when I first saw it. Never heard anything about them, or even heard their music before. But something within me urged me to buy it. And so I did. And I did not regret my action after that. It's such a good CD, with many songs inside done in their own special way. I especially like the style of strumming on the guitar on most of the tracks. But I have to admit that 'Kiss Me' was my favourite track on this entire ...

Review of Sixpence None The Richer - Sixpence None The Richer
Advantages: One of the top songs of the year Disadvantages: Only one from an excellent album released in the charts by this awesome group
Sixpence none the richer's super hit "kiss me" is one of those rare songs which occasionally come along, and just stick in your mind. So where did this group suddenly spring from? I have been following them for a while now, and their roots are quite interesting.
They have released a number of albums, and as far as I understand singles aswell. So why didn't we hear about them? Simple - they were all released into the Christian charts in America. ... ...songs, many of which I have heard played in churches. This is one of the rare occasions whereby a Christian artist released a single into the "normal" charts - and it achieved amazing success. Just goes to show that church music has come a long way from "onward Christian Soldier," and such...
An excellent allround song, with a fresh original sound - and a message behind it than is unbeatable! ...

Kiss Me by Sixpence None The Richer came to us in the UK last Summer. It was a huge hit and pending it's release on the Dawson's Creek Album it did incredibly well. The song is romantic and the sort of tune that you can listen to over and over again without getting bored of it. It is the classic Summer romance tune. A year on people still listen to it and it is still included on the worlds best summer albums (but it's hardly something from the Ibiza ...

Advantages: Some real gems Disadvantages: Quite a lot of pathetic overplayed tracks too
the few of my favourite tracks on this album so that you can see its good side (the numbers I have given next to each song are not the track numbers, just the way I have numbered them):
1.Lou Bega - 'Mambo no.5' - 3:35
What a great track! this is an instant classic which will be played for years to come. Using a big band, Lou Bega mixes a bit of jazz with a certain 'je ne sais quoi' (i think thats how you spell it!)
2.Jamiroquai - 'Canned Heat' - 3:18
I am a huge Jamiroquai fan so this has to go in. Definately one of the best tracks available here and also one of Jamiroquai's best. This combines an extreme amount of funk with acid jazz and heavy bass to create a really danceable track.
3.Sixpencenone the richer - 'Kiss me' - 3:17
A lovely track which makes you sing along. This is one of sixpencenone the richers' best tracks ...

Album Notes
Sixpence None The Richer: Leigh Nash (vocals); Matt Slocum (guitar, cello, Wurlitzer piano); Dale Baker (drums, percussion). Additional personnel: Al Perkins (pedal steel guitar); John Mark Painter (oud, accordion, trumpet, Mellotron, hurdy-gurdy, bells, buhl-buhl); Peter Hyrka, Antoine Silverman, David Davidson (violin); Kris Wilkinson (viola); Tom Howard (piano); Phil Madeira (Hammond B-3 organ); J.J. Plasencio (acoustic & electric basses); Chris Donohue (bass); Mark Nash (hi-hat, cymbals). SIXPENCE NONE THE RICHER was nominated for the 1999 Grammy Award for Best Rock Gospel Album. "Kiss Me" was nominated for the 2000 Grammy Award for Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal. To listen to the self-titled debut from awkwardly named trio Sixpence None The Richer is to stare unflinchingly into the face of late '90s folk-rock. The band is clearly influenced by what's gone before, but their sound is completely modern and original. Fronted by the stylized vocals of Leigh Nash, the band winsomely strums and croons its way through highly personal songs about finding one's way in the world. The influence of folk-poppers like 10,000 Maniacs and Mazzy Star can be heard throughout, in the intimate acoustic guitar rhythms and poignantly conversational vocals, but there's a more progressive Throwing Muses sound at work here as well, keeping SIXPENCE NONE THE RICHER from getting too dewy-eyed.
Album Reviews
Melody Maker (6/19/99, p.53) - 4 stars out of 5 - "...It has the gritty melancholic gorgeousness of 10,000 Maniacs, the hard-edged delicacy The Cardigans are struggling to achieve and...string arrangements Richard Ashcroft would pawn his Hush Puppies for..."
