comprised Cooking Vinyl's early roster. Flash back to the mid-1980s, when Jit Jive was an important sub-category across the fledgling "world music" racks: the Bhundu Boys and the Four Brothers were the most popular exponents, each represented by two tracks apiece (with another pair from departed Bhundu Biggie Tembo). The trademark sound is best illustrated by Rudo Chete, with Four Brothers leader Marshall Munhunumwe combining stepping bass drum, snicking hi-hat and tom-tom bomb-drops, guitars weaving a glistening web around his spacious beats. "Radio Africa" was the most commercial moment enjoyed by the Bhundus, its mixture of bubbly melody and melancholic sentiments perhaps foreshadowing the personal tragedies that would soon decimate the band. The lesser-known Machanic Manyeruke also provides two cuts, but the almost-forgotten gems come courtesy of the Real Sounds, Wende Zako starts with gentle horn nudges, lifting into a singalong section complete with succulent guitar lattice, then closing with their epic Afro-football commentary "Dynamos Vs. Tornados". The odd one out is S.E. Rogie, the acoustic Palm Wine purveyor from Sierra Leone, his appealingly quaint rambles emanating from the ancient era of vinyl-crackles. --Martin Longley
Advantages: Some of the best ska classics of all time! Disadvantages: The price
...I was recommended this c.d by a friend who grew up in the height of the ska era! Not being a die hard fan myself I wasn't that fussed, it cost £15.99 and I thought the price was a bit too expensive but I was pleasantly surpised at how much I liked it and that deep down I had heard some of the songs before. A compilation with the likes of Dexy's Midnight Runners, The Specials, Fun Boy Three, Madness, The Kinks and Desmond Decker made for a very entertaining few hours of music. With two of The Jams most famous tracks performed by Paul Weller live were an extra little bonus. 40 songs from some of the greatest ever living musicians make up this essential cd to have for any music collection and even though it was a bit on the expensive side it gave me great hours of easy listening!
This C.D is well worth the buy! I'd recommend anyone...

Advantages: Many different types of rock and fantstic artists - the best of 2006 and 2007 Disadvantages: Could have more hardrock artists in and and second CD hasn't as much good artists in
...A fantastic CD with lot's of different kinds of rock. The best bands of 2006 and 2007 put in one CD. Artists like Snow Patrol, Razorlight, The Fratellies, The Arctic Monkeys, Automatic, The Ordinary Boys, The Killers, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Kaiser Chiefs, The Kooks and the list goes on. Has two CD's and has 40 tracks, 20 on each CD. Has new up coming artist such as Wolfmother. has many artists winners from the Brits: The Killers who won best national CD and best national band, The Arctic Monkeys won best British CD and best British band. The Fratellis won an award too and many more Brit award winning artists. A fantastic purchase well worth its money. A great buy. I recommend definitely to people anywhere between 8 and 100 if they enjoy that kind of music. It even has some live performing artists such as 'The Arctic Monkeys' on tour...
