Advantages: Great fun music. Sunshine on a rainy day...
Disadvantages: Watch out if you have a dodgy back!

This is another Hi-Fi demo favourite of mine. The music is perhaps best defined as Roots Reggae with Ska and Rocksteady influences. Although Ranglin is such a stalwart of all those and more musical styles that he is responsible for his own influences, if you get my drift! I could even use the word 'Jazz' without too much fear of reprisals from the cogniscenti! Anyway, I'm no expert on any of those styles so don't read too much into my categorizations. I hate to pigeonhole music. So lets just call it upbeat, foottapping music from the soul, for the soul (but not soul music, per se). There I go again. Ranglin was born in Jamaica in 1932. Studio One Ska is the ULTIMATE ska compilation

Advantages: Amazing songs, great packaging
Disadvantages: NONE

You might have seen this CD before and been miffed at the measly 17 tracks on offer, especially compared to the 50 track box sets that Trojan offer for less money, and so left it on the shelf. However, this CD is simply the best ska compilation I've ever seen, so go back to the shop and buy it! I'll tell you why you should: This compilation contains original ska recorded at Brentford Road in the early sixties by the then-superstars of Jamaica, and the quality of the selection is awe-inspiring! As the house band, The Skatalites pretty much play on all of these tracks, with the artists forming a who's who of Jamaican music - Tommy McCook, Don Drummond, Jackie Mittoo and Roland Alphonso play in various arrangements alongside The Maytals, The Ethiopians, Delroy Wilson, Joe Higgs and The Wailers. ERNEST JONES - DIAMOND GEEZERS!

I have to say, I think Ernest Jones have one the of the best customer services of any retailer. Maybe that can't be said for all stores but it is certainly true of the Winchester store. My husband bought me a diamond and white gold engagement ring in January 2004. I absolutely adored the ring, so you can imagine my complete horror when I lost a diamond seven months later and three weeks before my wedding. I went back to the store with my receipt and explained my predicament. Having closely examined the ring, Ernest Jones agreed that I had not damaged the ring and that the stones could not have been properly set in the first place.
