Slicker Than Your Average is the second album by Craig David who took the world by storm ... more
with his boastful debut, Born to Do It. More than two years later, David has slogged through the minefields of sudden stardom and lived to sing about it, which he does with stylish aplomb. He has sacrificed some of his milk-fed innocence, but none of his braggadocio, as the title attests. His sound is harder, more anxious, and much more suitable for clubs than the soft, breezy nu-soul of his first outing. This time he's dealing with darker stuff, whether it's the press's relentless scrutiny of him or warning of the dangerous pitfalls of fame ("I'm not the man I used to be"). He's not the man he used to be, for fame seems to have shaken the scales from his eyes. This one-time wide-eyed romantic no longer pines for his perfect love, instead casting a rather jaundiced eye at the women vying for attention on "What's Your Flava." But his newfound complexity and edge makes for a much more interesting album than his debut. It's a relief to watch Craig David trading in his clean-cut pop styling for a much more urban edge, rife with old school R&B and hip-hop style. --Jaan Uhelszki

1. Slicker Than Your Average ~ I felt this song was more Hip Hop than this older stuff. To me it sounds like Usher or B2K could sing it and you could obviously tell he got his influences from American male R'n'B/Hip Hop artists. Not a great way to open the album but i would give it a 5/10.
2. What's Your Flava? ~ Absolutely loved this song. I'm so glad he released this as his first single from the album. I loved the whole concept ... ...and since i'm a fan of charlie and the chocolate factory the video delighted me. This was craig back to his good old self. Gets stuck in your head very easy
3. Fast Cars ~ Yet again more Hip Hop. Quite difficult to sing along too. A bit too gangsta-ish for my liking, but i suppose he's experiementing with his sounds which shows growth and depth of an artist, so i applaud him for that.
4. Hidden Agenda ~ Beautiful song. So glad he ... more
I loved Craig David's first song "Fill Me In" as it was catchy Pop/R'n'B ish and was just a great tune for the time it was out. I bought the album Born to Do it and it was such a great album. After he went away to america for a bit i couldn't wait for him to come out again with new material. I don't think this album did as well as his first album, but at least we got to hear new stuff from British Born craig.

I loved the whole concept of the song and the video. It was original and since i'm a fan of charlie and the chocolate factory the video delighted me. This was craig back to his good old self. A bit too gangsta-ish for my liking, but i suppose he's experiementing with his sounds which shows growth and depth of an artist, so i applaud him for that. 4. Hidden Agenda ~ Beautiful song. So glad he released this as his second single. It fits the formula. It has a great tune and great lyrics which you can sing along too. THis is one of the sounds that you wouldn't be surprised to hear on his first album. A nice summery song. 5. Eenie Meenie ~ Interesting song, yet again it reminds me of american produced music. In this song he does a bit of rapping and the chorus is really quick and gets you in the mood for going out. 6. You Don't Miss Your Water ('Til The Well Runs Dry) ~ Yet again he explores his vocal talents. A great ballad which shows us not only can he do Hip Hop and R'n'B but he can do heartfelt ballads that i'm sure will be a hit with the ladies. 7. Rise and Fall ~ Loved this song and Sting just compliment it so well. Their voices work so well together. The tune is simple but effective and the same goes for the video. 8. Personal ~ Usher style song. Sounds like Nice & Slow but it's great. It's a slow jam song which you can listen to with your lover and it's really romantic. 9. Hands Up In The Air ~ Great upbeat song which i can imagine listening to in a club. About going out in a club and having a good time. 10. 2 Steps Back ~ Great lyrics, Great Tune, a nice R'n'B song. the tune is really uptempo. 11. Spanish ~ A nice sexy latino number. A great song for a sexy dance when your on holiday and meet a foreign beauty. 12. What's Changed ~ Another song about relationships about how people change. It's a nice song but nothing that inspires you, it's just an R'n'B filler. 13. World Filled With Love ~ A song that truly shows us he isn't just another R'n'B wanabe, but an artist who can actually hit the high note and harmonise. His voice sounds amazing on this track and it's a really uplifting way to end the album.
I liked most of the songs on the album, although quite a few in my opinion were fillers. Unlike his first album which i could from start to finish non stop i think craig's going to have to put in a bit more work for his next album. Craig David fans will definitely love it as he is growing as an artist but i can't forget how great his first album was, so why not try the same thing again. However madonna didn't get where she is today without trying something completely new and different.
Advantages: Craig David is back... Disadvantages: ...and has become a crooner.
One of the most cruelest acts in music history has to be when CraigDavid was cheated out of several Brit awards in 2000 and this album, following the success of ?Born To do it? is clearly a response to that. "SlickerThanYourAverage" is CraigDavid?s second album after a break in which he took America by storm and turned down a record deal by a certain P. Diddy. Perhaps the music bosses should bite their tongues cause Craig?s clearly all over your.. stereo!
Tracks such as "Hidden Agenda" and "What's Changed" are true to the "Walking away"/"7 days" formula but the album lacks a a couple of garage tunes. "Rise & Fall" featuring Sting will definitely stand as one of the albums highlights. Stings vocals compliment David's, combining the rough with the smooth groove.
Any hot young mama (like myself, if I do say so!) will find ...
Advantages: Sting is on it Disadvantages: Only eight good tracks
As I’ve recently reviewed one of my favourite albums, CraigDavid’s “Born to Do It”, I thought it was about time to review his second album, released earlier this year.
Due to the worldwide success and positive reviews of his first album, Craig had a lot to live up to with “Slickerthanyouraverage”. Craig had all but disappeared from the musical scene, after being shafted at the Brit Awards, instead he took time out to record some new material, for this album.
SlickerthanyourAverage can be purchased for £8.99 at CD Wow.
The title track, and fist track on the album sounds off with a backing echoing voice, with Craig’s voice over the top, before the main vocals are introduced. I am still not sure about this song despite listening to it many times. It is almost as if it was thrown ...
Advantages: experimenting with different styles, a change from the first album, some clever lyrics Disadvantages: one or two weak songs

1. SLICKERTHANYOURAVERAGE - this song begins immediately with a great lively sound. a repetitive piece of music plays in the background. great rhythm mid pace. with the title of this song it sounds a bit like he loves himself but he has a great sound. with this song he likes to experiment with his singing he does very high notes with his voice which he can easily reach then he goes deep but also keeps to his usual smooth sound. this is a catchy sound with the regular line slickerthanyouraverage which will be ...
