treated him badly, and he wants to respond in kind. But he isn't a straight-up gangsta--this is, after all, the first release on Dr. Dre's Aftermath Records, his post-Death Row-era venture--and Eminem (born Marshall Mathers) doesn't really want anyone to follow in his footsteps, which leads to some interesting contradictions on this album. In the first single, "My Name Is", he's self-deprecating, rapping about his poor upbringing and his hairy palms. But on the very next song, "Guilty Conscience", he plays the devil to Dr. Dre's angel--that is, until Eminem brings up an incident from Dre's devilish past, rapping, "You gonna take advice from someone who slapped Dee Barnes?" Later, on "'97 Bonnie & Clyde", he turns Will Smith's "Just the Two of Us" on its ear, making it a tale of murder; but on "My Fault", he actually feels bad--though whether it's for the girl he overdosed or for himself is tough to figure out. With his nasal Midwestern tone, Mathers has a clean, clear flow, and the production--by Dr. Dre, Marky, and Jeff Bass--is crisp but consistently fun. Eminem has some serious skills, and he makes for some great tunes--but the lyrics are as morally reprehensible as they get. --Randy Silver
Advantages: Phenomenal, yet sick Debut Disadvantages: Some weaker moments as expected
...semi insane hip-hop alter-ego named Slim Shady and unleashed him on the Slim Shady EP. Still no sales... All of this changed when N.W.A. alumni and hugely successful west coast producer and rapper Dr. Dre got his hands on a tape full of Eminem's sh*t. He wasted no time in seeking out the young emcee and getting a record deal immediately. Eminem signed a deal with the doc and immediately went to work on his debut, full length LP. Eminem hit the mainstream ... ...humorous storytelling, introducing his alter-ego Slim Shady to the world. He touches on his troubled past, the fact that he thinks he is going insane, and his inner desires. He drops a couple of names, but overall tones the controversy down a bit to just shock humor, which is reminiscent of one of Eminem's idols Redman. "Guilty Conscious" is the second mainstream single from this album. Eminem and Dre team up and trade off verses, playing the part ...

I Do NOT Obsess... Review ofSlim Shady LP, The (Clean Version) - Eminemby

Advantages: Funny. Creative. Entertaining. Disadvantages: The skits are annoying as f--- after a few plays.
...you are.)
Marshall Mathers, Slim Shady, Eminem, White Boy, Satan - whatever you call him, he's all over the airwaves worldwide, and it does not seem that he will be leaving the charts anytime soon. Before Em's commercial debut (this album), the Detroit rapper had a lot of material floating around - the underground kind. Be sure to check out "The Slim Shady EP" as it contains earlier versions of many tracks featured on the CD I'm supposed to be writing ... ...All in all, The Slim Shady LP is a funny, creative album, which gives fans new and old alike a look into the things he thought and felt before anybody knew who or what he was. This is a solid debut that only gets better with age - I would give it five stars, but the skits break up the overall flow of the record and annoy the hell out of me.
Also on this CD:
Tons of raps about drug abuse, alcohol, violence (but he didn't REALLY kill his wife, as ...

MY NAME IS Review ofSlim Shady LP, The (Clean Version) - Eminemby
coolj
Advantages: Classic songs and some funny Eminem lyrics Disadvantages: A few weak tracks, not due to Eminem but the actual tune.
...extravagent personality of the alter-ego Slim Shady made this album a guaranteed hit.
The "Public Service Announcement" sets the scene for this album. "The views and events expressed here are totally f**ked, do not partake in the listening of this album with laces in your shoes" describes this album perfectly. The lyrics maybe "f**ked" but they are fun and not to be taken seriously.
The first track is also Eminem's first release, "My Name Is". ... ...it is called on the Slim Shady EP, the first version of the Slim Shady LP), is the track where Eminem kills his babys-momma. This track caused a lot of contreversy. Eminem kills his girlfriend then takes her to a river to dispose of the body and brings along his daughter. You really have to hear this track. Its funny and not to be taken seriously like some critics have taken it. Great track.
"Role Model" sends out a message to all the people complaining ...

Advantages: Great production, great lyrics Disadvantages: Explicit, but it depends on how easily you are offended!
The Slim Shady album is one of the best albums I have heard. Eminem's second album (after his debut one, Infinite) is excellent.
With 20 tracks, there is a track to listen to for every type of mood that you are in! His talent is just so apparent. The special edition version has 3 extra songs on another c-d (2 freestyles) and a c-d rom element.
I bought the Slim Shady lp after his most recent one, Marshall Mathers and so my expectations were high ... ...and some reflect his past. Slim said that he's not going to fabricate his past, and he definetely hasn't. One track, Brain Damage is about a child who used to get beaten up and no one used to help him. The child he is talking about is himself, as he was beaten up a lot when he was younger and was once even put into a coma. So people can relate to what he's saying in his songs.
As well as having a great number of tracks, there is a brilliant c-d ...

Advantages: His style and how he introduces rap Disadvantages: Some of his lyrics are distastful
...people all the time, but Slim Shady does not do that, he talks about real issues that people face everyday, this is one of the realest albums that I have ever heard from a rapper. About Slim Shady: A creation of Dr. Dre, rapper Eminem was born Marshall Mathers in Kansas City, spending most of his impoverished childhood moving back and forth between his hometown and the city of Detroit. He was first attracted to rap as a teen, and Eminem began performing ... ...Infinite, soon followed by the Slim Shady EP; both records made a huge splash in the hip-hop underground, earning notice not only for Eminem's rapping style but also for his skin colour. Music: The music some of the most original and best lyrics that I have ever heard come out of a rappers mouth, the songs are both original and full of meaning. All you have to do is listen to the words and you can see that a lot of thought had gone into to them. ...
