There was a lad at my school who I know will have grown up like Eminem. Loud of mouth, and pants a-swaggering.
This little boy was the scourge of the teachers, abusive and disruptive, yet highly entertaining to his peers. He was regularly suspended and always on report. In spite of his comedic value to his classmates he had no real friends. The older he got the worse he got, more obnoxious and antisocial. He's probably in and out of prison now.
Outwardly his family looked okay, but his father was a violent drunk, who regularly beat his sons and wife. No one tried to help him.
In a different life he could have used this as a unique selling point, full of anger and vitreolic hate. Railing against an unkind world and its more unkind inhabitants.
I am glad to see that Eminem is enjoying success, but his rise to fame almost seems to celebrate emotional turmoil.
I don't know the details of Eminems childhood, but I'd put money on it that it was no Enid Blyton jolly romp.
I wonder whether he will be able to maintain the string of hits, or whether he will be cast aside when the record company gets a new toy.
His music does not seem particularly creative, he could almost be a foul mouthed fast talking Rick Astley, his image and songs have the same manufactured feel.
I hope he hangs in there. He may be a few sarnies short of a picnic...but so are most folk!
